Chapter 1590
"But..." Dr. Morris began, but Dr. Blanc interrupted. "In that case, we won't force you; we're looking for a volunteer. Besides, I trust Mr. Fike's recommendation, and I believe Mrs. Russell would be a valuable asset to our team." He turned to Lily as he extended the invitation.
Lily considered this for a moment, then replied slowly, "I look forward to working with you both."
Dr. Morris objected, murmuring, "Dr. Blanc..." He still felt Dominic should be invited. However, the chief physician prevented further discussion. "Moe, show Mrs. Russell the non-disclosure agreement."
Reluctantly, Dr. Morris retrieved the agreement from his briefcase and handed it to Lily. She hesitated briefly before taking it. Dr. Blanc explained, "Due to the nature of our work, everyone associated with the X Department must sign this agreement. I trust you don't mind."
Lily reviewed the agreement, finding no objectionable clauses. She signed it promptly and returned it.
"Would you be available to report for duty at our department at 8 p.m. tonight?" Dr. Blanc inquired.
"Tonight?" Lily exclaimed, surprised by the immediacy. Dominic also looked taken aback. "Isn't that... rather soon?"
Dr. Blanc corrected him, "The truth is, it's not soon enough. Our project is urgent. We understand Mrs. Russell will need time to arrange her affairs, but otherwise, we'd prefer her immediate presence."
Lily understood the urgency of the unusual situation. The sooner she began the research, the better; the quicker she could find a solution, the more hope they had. She prioritized accordingly and nodded. "Okay, 8 p.m. then! I'll be there on time."
"Perfect!" Dr. Blanc nodded, rising. Dr. Morris followed suit. "Thank you for your support, Mr. Fike. Please rest well. I wish you good health and longevity!"
"Thank you for your concern!" Dominic replied, chuckling and nodding repeatedly.
Once they left, Dominic's smile vanished. He turned to run upstairs, but Lily swiftly grabbed his collar. "Where do you think you're going, old man?"
He struggled, protesting, "Hey! Why are you pulling me? I'm going to see your beloved son, of course!"
"Oh, yeah?" Lily drawled, a hint of sarcasm in her tone. "How dare you sell me out without telling me anything! You think you can hold Galen hostage and expect my obedience?"
He chuckled, then paused, his eyes meeting hers. Seeing her lack of amusement, his smile faltered. "Okay, I did."
Lily released him, sighing. "Never mind. I retract that."
