Chapter 1586
Leaving the hospital, Lily drove towards Dominic's estate in a hazmat suit. Despite taking thorough disinfection precautions, she prioritized safety. Dominic's age and her son's presence demanded absolute caution. Lily drove slowly, yet sensed she was being followed shortly after departing. This was unexpected; she hadn't returned in a long time and had been meticulous in concealing her whereabouts.
Glancing in her rearview mirror, she saw a car maintaining a distance. She vaguely discerned a female driver, though her face was obscured by a baseball cap and mask. 'Could it be Rhea?' she wondered, subtly accelerating. The other car responded in kind, its pursuit rather clumsy. Lily smirked, slowing down. Spotting an approaching flashing traffic light, she accelerated, clearing the intersection just before the light turned red. The pursuing car was caught at the light.
'That driver is dreadful!' Lily muttered, quickly putting distance between them. The incident heightened her vigilance, recalling the men who had nearly killed her and her son. She'd commissioned Alexander's men to investigate; they traced the attackers to an overseas origin, but the trail went cold. Few would dare attack someone with the Russell family's influence and standing. Their vast international network made the attackers' anonymity all the more unsettling, suggesting unusual backgrounds. Fortunately, she reached Dominic's unhindered.
No cars were visible outside the gate, suggesting his guests hadn't arrived. Exiting her vehicle, Lily donned her hazmat suit before approaching the estate on foot, avoiding driving through the gate. The suit rendered her almost unrecognizable to the guard.
"This is private property. No trespassing!" the guard called out.
Lily lowered her head, slightly adjusting her mask beneath the face shield. "It's me," she said.
"Mrs. Russell!" The guard, visibly surprised, quickly opened the gate. "Mr. Fike is waiting inside."
"Thank you," Lily replied, entering.
Only then did she notice a car parked in the yard. Its unusual license plate suggested VIP guests. 'Are these the individuals Dominic wants me to meet? Is he arranging this introduction due to their unusual backgrounds?' she mused. She held little interest in government figures, yet couldn't disappoint Dominic. Moreover, she intended to collect some herbs.
The house was eerily quiet. Inside, Dominic looked up, startled by her arrival. Lily attributed his expression to her hazmat suit.
"Old man, I'm here!" she announced.
As she entered, she saw two other hazmat-clad individuals seated opposite Dominic. Their stunned expressions mirrored her own. The professional protective gear was unmistakable.
