Chapter 1528
โI have no proof!โ Fabian exclaimed indignantly. He fell silent, his anger simmering. โIโve been close to Cameron for years, yet I havenโt a shred of leverage. All I can do is constantly appease him. After all this time, he should show some appreciation. Even a dog gets a bone! He just enjoys playing the impartial judge!โ
โSo, what did he say? Did he not keep his promise? Did he take money from the Russell family?โ Maria asked cautiously.
โHow should I know?โ Fabian replied impatiently, rising from the stool and settling onto the sofa. He frowned, remembering something. โWhereโs Rhea?โ
โSheโs back at the lab,โ Maria said, her arms outstretched in a questioning gesture. โIs it because of the incident with Tasia? If so, Iโll apologize to Tasia!โ
โNo,โ Maria said firmly.
Fabian waved a dismissive hand, calming himself. He pondered Cameronโs words, sensing something amiss. โIt was an accident. I saw Rhea didnโt do it intentionally. And couldnโt Tasia have let Rhea search for a bit longer? Weโre family! I let Tasia come and go as she pleases; why canโt we do the same at her house? Since sheโs not our daughter, she treats us like outsiders,โ Maria said sadly.
โCameron told me to tell our daughter to behave herself and that there were still scores to settle,โ Fabian said.
He remained thoughtful, but Maria exploded upon hearing this.
โHe said that? Really? What nonsense is this?โ she cried, pacing furiously. โDoes he call himself a man? Weโve helped him raise his daughter for years. I even wore myself out trying to find the miracle doctor. Canโt he see how much his daughter has improved? Heโs so ungrateful!โ She clapped her hands angrily. โScores to settle? Fine. Letโs settle the score. Tasia lived and ate in our house for years, and I spent a fortune on that miracle doctor. Does he have any idea how much weโve spent? He wants to settle the score with us? I think it should be the other way around!โ
His anger spent, Fabian grew calmer. After a quiet moment of reflection, he frowned. โNo, I think when he said that, he wasnโt talking about me.โ
โDid Rhea offend him?โ he asked thoughtfully.
Maria, still fuming, retorted, โHow could Rhea offend him? Sheโs hardly ever home and rarely sees him. When she does, sheโs always courteous. She only had a minor scuffle with Tasia, a simple fall down the stairs. Tasia wasnโt even seriously hurt. Does he really need to make such a fuss? If heโs so upset, Iโll fall down the stairs myself to make it up to his daughter!โ
Her anger stemmed from her belief in her daughterโs innocence.
โWhat kind of crazy talk is that? If falling down the stairs would appease him, I would have pushed you down long ago!โ Fabian rolled his eyes.
Maria looked puzzled.
โSomethingโs not right about what Cameron said today. Tell Rhea to come home. I want to speak with her properly to see if thereโs something weโre missing,โ he said.
