Chapter 1528

โ€œI have no proof!โ€ Fabian exclaimed indignantly. He fell silent, his anger simmering. โ€œIโ€™ve been close to Cameron for years, yet I havenโ€™t a shred of leverage. All I can do is constantly appease him. After all this time, he should show some appreciation. Even a dog gets a bone! He just enjoys playing the impartial judge!โ€

โ€œSo, what did he say? Did he not keep his promise? Did he take money from the Russell family?โ€ Maria asked cautiously.

โ€œHow should I know?โ€ Fabian replied impatiently, rising from the stool and settling onto the sofa. He frowned, remembering something. โ€œWhereโ€™s Rhea?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s back at the lab,โ€ Maria said, her arms outstretched in a questioning gesture. โ€œIs it because of the incident with Tasia? If so, Iโ€™ll apologize to Tasia!โ€

โ€œNo,โ€ Maria said firmly.

Fabian waved a dismissive hand, calming himself. He pondered Cameronโ€™s words, sensing something amiss. โ€œIt was an accident. I saw Rhea didnโ€™t do it intentionally. And couldnโ€™t Tasia have let Rhea search for a bit longer? Weโ€™re family! I let Tasia come and go as she pleases; why canโ€™t we do the same at her house? Since sheโ€™s not our daughter, she treats us like outsiders,โ€ Maria said sadly.

โ€œCameron told me to tell our daughter to behave herself and that there were still scores to settle,โ€ Fabian said.

He remained thoughtful, but Maria exploded upon hearing this.

โ€œHe said that? Really? What nonsense is this?โ€ she cried, pacing furiously. โ€œDoes he call himself a man? Weโ€™ve helped him raise his daughter for years. I even wore myself out trying to find the miracle doctor. Canโ€™t he see how much his daughter has improved? Heโ€™s so ungrateful!โ€ She clapped her hands angrily. โ€œScores to settle? Fine. Letโ€™s settle the score. Tasia lived and ate in our house for years, and I spent a fortune on that miracle doctor. Does he have any idea how much weโ€™ve spent? He wants to settle the score with us? I think it should be the other way around!โ€

His anger spent, Fabian grew calmer. After a quiet moment of reflection, he frowned. โ€œNo, I think when he said that, he wasnโ€™t talking about me.โ€

โ€œDid Rhea offend him?โ€ he asked thoughtfully.

Maria, still fuming, retorted, โ€œHow could Rhea offend him? Sheโ€™s hardly ever home and rarely sees him. When she does, sheโ€™s always courteous. She only had a minor scuffle with Tasia, a simple fall down the stairs. Tasia wasnโ€™t even seriously hurt. Does he really need to make such a fuss? If heโ€™s so upset, Iโ€™ll fall down the stairs myself to make it up to his daughter!โ€

Her anger stemmed from her belief in her daughterโ€™s innocence.

โ€œWhat kind of crazy talk is that? If falling down the stairs would appease him, I would have pushed you down long ago!โ€ Fabian rolled his eyes.

Maria looked puzzled.

โ€œSomethingโ€™s not right about what Cameron said today. Tell Rhea to come home. I want to speak with her properly to see if thereโ€™s something weโ€™re missing,โ€ he said.
