Daisy left two days after Lily fired her, receiving her wages plus an extra month's salary. Lily felt it was best to end their employment amicably, as Daisy hadn't done anything wrong. Galen didn't react strongly to Daisy's absence. Sitting in the backseat, he swung his legs. "Mommy, are we going to Grandpa's house?"
"Yes, and you're staying there," Lily replied, nodding.
"Okay," he answered calmly.
Lily glanced at him in the rearview mirror. 'He's taking this well,' she thought. After a while, he asked, "Are you going to see Daddy?"
Stunned, Lily glanced at him. "How did you know?"
"I heard you talking with Grandpa." He blinked his large eyes. "Is it dangerous?"
"Not really. It should be safe." Surprised by his concern, Lily smiled. "Are you going to miss me?"
"Yes!" He nodded firmly. "Mommy... you have to come back soon, okay?" His eyes shone.
Lily's heart warmed at his sweet voice. 'What an adorable, sensible, and smart child! I must come back safely. So must Alex!'
