Chapter 1431

Lily felt uneasy. Knowing things weren't as simple as they seemed, she hesitated letting Daisy continue accompanying her son. Standing at the door, arms crossed, she asked Daisy, "How long have you worked for us?"

"About four months," Daisy replied thoughtfully.

"Hmm, and you haven't taken leave to see family? Don't you miss them?" Lily's question sounded casual.

Daisy shook her head. "I don't have any family, Madam. I'm the only one left." She spoke without emotion; she wasn't lying. Lily had conducted a background check when Daisy applied; both parents deceased, no siblings, a deceased husband, and a child who died young. Lily had pitied her then, and her childcare experience and positive references had made her seem like the perfect candidate. Now, things felt different.

"Oh, right. I'm so sorry," Lily murmured, touching her forehead. "Thenโ€ฆ no friends? No desire to spend time with them? Look, I'll give you a few days off to rest."

Daisy's eyes met Lily's calmly. "Madam, are you firing me?"

Lily was startled. "No! Of course not. I just thought you deserved a break after caring for Galen." Though suspicious, Lily hadn't considered dismissing Daisy. However, Daisy's prolonged stay meant she knew a great deal about the family. Dismissal was risky. Lily preferred keeping her close to uncover her intentions, but she couldn't ignore the potential danger to her son. A few days off seemed the best approach.

"I don't have friends, and I don't need rest. I love caring for the little boy, I'm well-paid, and I'll continue working hard!" Daisy declared sincerely.

Lily was at a loss. After a moment, she said, "Very well. Continue working. But if you're tired or overwhelmed, tell me, and you can take a break."

"Thank you, Madam." Daisy turned to enter the room.

Lily panicked, calling out, "Daisy!"

Daisy stopped and turned, looking suspicious.

"Sleep in the guest room from tonight. I'll sleep with Galen."

Daisy looked confused.

"A child needs his mother sometimes," Lily explained, peeking at her sleeping son. "I'll care for him at night, especially when his father's away." It was partly a ruse, but she genuinely wanted more time with Galen.

"Madam, you're pregnant. You shouldn't overexert yourself," Daisy pointed out, looking at Lily's growing belly.
