Chapter 1393
Anastasia shouldn't have doubted Lily from the start.
"You have a right to be suspicious, and I should explain," Lily said. "I didn't tell you before because I was unsure."
"Unsure about what?" Anastasia asked curiously.
Lily pondered before replying, "I wasn't sure what poisoned you."
Fear drained Anastasia's face.
Lily quickly reassured her, noticing her expression. "You don't have to be scared. The poison isn't fatal."
Anastasia's fear stemmed not from the poisoning itself, but from the fact that Lily and the miracle doctor had independently reached the same conclusion: her years of weight problems, fatigue, and discouragement were all due to poisoning.
Calming herself, she asked, "Then what am I poisoned with?"
"It's complicated," Lily answered cautiously. "I think it's something you've ingested for a long time. I need a few days to study it carefully."
Anastasia retrieved her phone, scrolling to a picture of a prescription Austin had given her. She showed it to Lily. "Is this effective for the toxins in my body?"
Lily examined the prescription. "Did Austin give you this?" Anastasia nodded.
This implied Austin wasn't a charlatan; he possessed some medical knowledge, and the prescription should work, right?
Lily shook her head. "That's not a good prescription. It temporarily suppresses your appetite and relieves fatigue, but it has little effect on detoxification. We need to identify the poison before finding an antidote. This prescription only temporarily improves your mood and reduces appetite; it might even make you nauseous. It won't affect the poison."
Anastasia's hopes crumbled. She'd initially believed the miracle doctor could save her, but now, even this seemed futile.
Lily quickly comforted her. "Don't be discouraged. The toxins are complicated, but not fatal. This chronic poisoning won't kill you. I should find an antidote, but you'll have to give me time."
Lily feared Anastasia's disappointment. Each setback was disheartening; willpower was crucial in fighting illness, and a collapse of strength led to overall failure. Therefore, Lily avoided detailing the poison's effects, preferring to focus on Anastasia's diet and well-being rather than immediate healing or detoxification. Austin presented a significant obstacle.
"I've been in few places since childhood; the maids at home have been with me my whole life. I rarely ate out. Everything was from my kitchen. How could I be poisoned? Could the maids be harming me?" Anastasia worried, genuinely perplexed by her poisoning.
