Chapter 1327
Pouting scornfully, she could hardly wait. "Tasia, come on!" She thought, Now that the miracle doctor is upset, I must persuade her to return.
"Lily, I'm sorry for what happened today," Anastasia apologized, walking away. She reflected, Regardless, I was a guest, but my family member caused a scene with someone Lily dislikes. This is our fault.
"It's fine. Remember to visit often," Lily replied.
Anastasia nodded, glanced at her aunt chattering outside, and left.
Maria babbled as they entered the car. "Tasia, how could you befriend that woman? She's difficult!"
"I heard she had a boyfriend before marrying Alexander, and ruined his family. His uncle was ousted from the company and now suffers in the mountains, all because of her. Andโ"
"Aunt Maria, where did you hear these rumors?" Anastasia frowned, upset. They seem baseless.
Maria disagreed. "These aren't rumors! My well-connected friends told me. They know all the town gossip. In short, Mrs. Russellโฆ"
They're not well-connected; they're just busybodies! Anastasia thought, interrupting.
Anastasia knew Maria's wealthy friends loved gossip and had spread rumors about her. She also knew they'd spoken ill of her behind her back. Besides, she'd investigated Lily beforehand. I'm not an idiot. I wouldn't befriend someone without knowing them.
"How could you speak to your aunt like that? You've known that woman only a few days, and she's already a bad influence!" Maria exclaimed.
She saw Anastasia's shopping bag and tried to grab it. "Let me see those awful gifts."
To her surprise, Anastasia held firm. "Aunt Maria! These are my gifts! You shouldn't do this!"
"What the hell are you talking about? I'm your aunt and elder! Can't I check if her gifts are harmful?" Maria persisted, pulling, but Anastasia, stronger, shielded the bag with her body.
Unable to reach the bag, Maria could only clench her teeth, staring, breathless. Stupid girl! Fat pig! Do you think I'd bother with your affairs if it weren't for your father? she thought.
When Alexander returned and learned what happened, he first asked, "Did she startle our son?"
"He was napping. The house is well soundproofed; he wasn't disturbed."
That's why Lily hadn't forcibly ejected Austin and Maria. She wouldn't tolerate anyone disturbing her son.
"Good," he said, pulling Lily close, examining her for injury. Relieved to see she was unharmed, he sighed. "Stay out of this."
He knew Anastasia had been unwell for a long time, and Cameron had taken her to many doctors. He didn't doubt Lily's abilities, but knew it was a thankless task.
