Chapter 1226

The salesgirl watched as Lily produced a black and gold credit card. She had seen it only once before; at most, five people in all of Kingsland possessed such a card. Who was this seemingly ordinary pregnant woman?

Jane didn't recognize the card, but knew the dress was unavailable. She quickly explained, "Madam, I'm sorry, but this dress is reserved. We can't sell it to you."

Lily raised an eyebrow. "You can't sell it? Why did you show it to me then?"

"I apologize. Perhaps you'd like to see some of our other equally beautiful dresses?"

Lily raised a hand to stop the profuse apologies. "This isn't your fault. She showed me the dress. I even agreed to pay before trying it on. Now you tell me it's not for sale? Is this how you run a business?"

She sat on a nearby stool. "If you can't give me a satisfactory explanationโ€ฆ" She paused, a faint smile playing on her lips.

The smile made the salesgirl shudder. She finally understood she'd provoked someone powerful. She hadn't noticed it earlier, but the smile Lily wore now was the same one she'd had upon entering the store. Why was it so intimidating now?

"I'm sorry, madam. I made a mistake. I forgot another customer had reserved this dress and paid a deposit. Our boutique has other stylesโ€ฆ"

"Fitting for me?" Lily interrupted, sneering. "If I recall, someone suggested I wouldn't fit anything here and should leave."

Sweat beaded on the salesgirl's brow. She mumbled apologies, blaming her hasty judgment.

"I hold nothing against you," Lily replied, crossing her arms, her smile unwavering. Before the salesgirl could breathe a sigh of relief, she continued, "I want that dress. Get me the bill. Is my card malfunctioning?" She waved the card.

Jane, watching from the sidelines, flushed with anxiety. This would damage the store's reputation if not resolved.

"Madam, it's reserved. I'm truly sorry! We have two other exquisite dresses, or you could explore our luxury section for bespoke tailoring."

"That sounds good, butโ€ฆ" Lily paused, her gaze sharp, "why do you think I was looking at ready-made dresses?"

The salesgirl fell silent. High-end customers usually demanded bespoke designs. The ready-made dresses were samples; clients typically ordered custom pieces after selecting a style. People only chose ready-to-wear options in emergencies. Lily, clearly, was in such a situation. She couldn't wait.

The salesgirl, visibly sweating, glanced at the dress the intern held, gritting her teeth. "Madam, I understand money is no object, and you like this dress, butโ€ฆ the person who reserved it isn't ordinary. I don't think you can afford to provoke her."
