Chapter 1223
The following day, Alexander rose and washed, then went downstairs for breakfast. After seeing Galen, he returned to the bedroom and found Lily still fast asleep.
He called her twice, but she merely grunted and turned over. He noticed how tired she seemed and felt a pang of sympathy. Had he overindulged himself, leaving her exhausted?
He tucked her in, saying softly, "Don't you have a conference tonight? If you're too tired, don't go."
Though her eyes remained closed, her lips moved. "No, it's a symposium held by the Medicinal Herbs Association. I have to go." Alexander was surprised by her clarity, considering how soundly she appeared to be sleeping. He smiled. "How about I send someone with you?"
"No, I'll take a cab. There will be a lot of old-fashioned men there; I don't want to attract attention." His cars were conspicuous, easily identifiable by their unique license plates.
He wanted to protest, but she pulled the blanket around herself and waved him away. "Don't you have a meeting at eight? Just go. Bye!" She nearly hit him with a flailing arm.
Alexander smiled wryly. Since she remembered his meeting, she wasn't that tired. It was just an industry gathering, anyway. If she wanted to go, so be it. He leaned down, kissed her forehead, and left.
Lily didn't wake until nearly noon. Feeling refreshed but achy, she rubbed her shoulder, washed, and went to see Galen. He was getting along well with the new nanny.
As first-time parents, even with the best intentions, they couldn't provide optimal care. Their careers demanded they hire a professional.
After interviewing ten nannies, they'd settled on the current one, whose background, age, and experience were all suitable. Galen's happy grin as the nanny entered the room confirmed their choice.
"My husband and I will be home late tonight," Lily told the nanny while playing with Galen. "Call me if you need anything."
"Okay. Don't worry. I'll take good care of Galen."
The symposium was at 6:30 PM in the atrium ballroom. Lily wanted a suitable dress but couldn't find one. Most of her clothes were pre-pregnancy; while she'd bought looser styles afterward, nothing was appropriate for the occasion. She decided to go shopping.
The Galleria was known for its trendy merchandiseโfurniture, clothing, accessories, and more.
