Chapter 1211
"I know you too well," Hannah said, her voice tight. "After you chop off his leg, you'll do something else. You never wanted to give us freedom, or let me go. Just kill me!" She looked ready to sacrifice herself.
Heather stared at Ralph, who remained silent, his gaze fixed downward.
"Aren't you two in love? Won't you give up anything for each other? I've given you a chance, and you can't even bear to sacrifice a leg?" Heather mocked, addressing Ralph directly.
"Uncle Ralph," Lily interjected, "Hannah is willing to sacrifice so much for you. Aren't you going to say something?"
"What do you want me to say?" Ralph looked up at Lily, his voice sharp with anger. "That I'm okay with having my leg chopped off? No, I'm not!"
"As winners, you act high and mighty, treating people like dirt. Now I have nothing, and you still want to chop off my leg! How will I make a living? Will the Russell family support me? Hannah too?"
He pointed at Hannah without looking at her. "You won't! You're just enjoying seeing us suffer!"
"All I want is to stay alive," he stressed.
"I promise," Heather said suddenly, "this will be my last demand. Your arms and one of his legs, and then you both can leave. I'll never bother you again. I'll even give you money to leaveโwherever you go, whatever you do, it's none of my concern. How's that?"
The offer was tempting. Hannah's eyes lit up as she looked at Heather, then at Ralph, awaiting his response. He remained hunched, clutching his legs, his gaze averted.
Heather laughed. "You see that? That's the man you love? Do you think he truly likes you? He only cares about himself! You're willing to give up your family and your arms for him, but he can't bear losing a leg. Do you think he'd do anything for you? Do you think it's worth it?"
Hannah's expression remained unchanged when Heather mentioned her arms, but her face paled, her eyes losing their light. She seemed drained, devoid of hope.
Approaching Ralph, she whispered, "Ralphy..."
He looked up, shaking his head. "As I said, I just want to stay alive. Nothing is more important than that."
"Not even me..." Hannah's voice trembled, her sentence unfinished.
Like a lost soul, she turned to Heather, offering a faint smile. "You've achieved your goal. That's what you wanted, isn't it? To see my last hope destroyed, to laugh at my stupidity and failure. You must be happy. Yes, I'm stupid! I gambled everything on loving this man, a good-for-nothing, but let me tell you somethingโI don't regret it. Because I learned about joy and pain through him, and I found hope in him. Ralphy made me realize I'm a living person, not just your shadow!"
Clutching her chest, she screamed, her voice echoing through the house. "Don't worry. From now on, there won't be two children in the Riggs family anymore! You, Mom, and Dad won't need to worry about the curse again!"
Swiftly, she picked up a knife and plunged it into her stomach.
