Chapter 376

Kimsey had really pulled off something big.

The weight Landon had been carrying in his heart was finally gone.

He felt lighter than ever before.

โ€œHoney, letโ€™s go to the amusement park!โ€ Landon, in rare high spirits, suggested.

Amelia shook her head, a helpless smile tugging at her lips as she looked at him.

Kimsey had never been to an amusement park before.

His parents always said he was too little to play, and his grandma worried thereโ€™d be too many germs in a public play area.

But today, on his first visit, he was having the time of his life, waving his tiny arms as he tossed the ocean balls around, his smile blooming like a flower.

This place was so much fun, and there were so many kids. Kimsey didnโ€™t know that helping people heal would let him come to the amusement park.

From now on, he was going to help more people and come to the amusement park more often.

Amelia and Landon, having no idea what was going on in Kimseyโ€™s little head, just played with him on the kiddie slide and other rides.

They didnโ€™t leave until Kimsey was completely worn out and fell asleep in their arms, then the three of them made their way back to the Zuckerberg family home.

โ€œHoney, why donโ€™t we get a place here in Lunova?โ€ Landon suggested.

Living at the Zuckerberg family place all the time just didnโ€™t feel right to him.

โ€œNo need. Once Kaylaโ€™s out of the hospital, weโ€™ll head back to Norava,โ€ Amelia replied. Honestly, she didnโ€™t mind staying with the Zuckerbergs at all.

After all, this was her familyโ€™s place.

The only thing that really bugged her was that her dad hadnโ€™t shown up at her brotherโ€™s wedding.

She still hadnโ€™t even met her father.

Kayla was only in the hospital for two days, hooked up to an IV drip, and then she was out.

Her sudden recovery left the doctors scratching their heads. But of course, they figured it was just their hospitalโ€™s amazing treatment that did the trick.

There was no other way to explain how someone with such a serious illness could get better so fast.

Kayla even made a thank-you banner herself and brought it to the hospital, which only made everyone more convinced that it was all thanks to the doctors.

Tuff was grinning from ear to ear every single day, so happy he didnโ€™t even bother going to work. He just took time off to stay home with Kayla.

Maggie was still suspicious, thinking it all sounded too good to be true. She pulled Tuff aside and asked, โ€œSon, is your wife really cured?โ€

โ€œOf course, Mom! The doctors said so!โ€ Tuff replied, beaming.

โ€œAnd she can have kids now?โ€ Maggie pressed.

โ€œYeah! Kayla says she wants two!โ€ Tuff straightened up, looking all proud. โ€œBut honestly, Iโ€™m not ready for kids yet. Letโ€™s just have fun for a couple years before we even think about that.โ€

Maggie felt as miserable as if sheโ€™d eaten something awful.

When Joyce told her that the woman outside was pregnant, Maggie was secretly pleased. Sheโ€™d been scheming in her head about how to talk Kayla into taking the baby in once it was born.

But now that Kayla could have kids of her own, there was no way sheโ€™d agree to raise someone elseโ€™s child.

Maybe Kayla even ended up divorcing Tuff over this whole mess.

โ€œMom, whatโ€™s up with you?โ€ Tuff frowned when he saw the look on Maggieโ€™s face. โ€œIโ€™m serious, Mom. If you keep making things hard for Kayla, Iโ€™ll take her back to Norava and we wonโ€™t ever come back!โ€

โ€œYeah, yeah, I get itโ€ฆโ€ Maggie grumbled.

Feeling awkward, she made up an excuse about going shopping and went to find Joyce.

โ€œJoyce, Kaylaโ€™s all better now, and she can have kids again!โ€ Maggie said.

โ€œWhat?โ€

Joyce stared at her, stunned. โ€œHow could she possibly recover from that? That illness was supposed to be impossible to cure!โ€

โ€œItโ€™s true! The hospital stay actually cured her,โ€ Maggie said, forcing the words out. โ€œJoyce, whereโ€™s that girl now?โ€

โ€œWhat are you trying to say?โ€ Joyce felt a chill run down her spine, her hand unconsciously moved to her lower abdomen.

โ€œSince she just got pregnant now, go to the hospital and have it terminated! Iโ€™ll compensate her,โ€ Maggie said coldly. โ€œ300 thousand dollars. That should cover it, right?โ€

Joyceโ€™s face fell.

After a long silence, she finally said, โ€œBut, thatโ€™s your own grandchild.โ€

โ€œThere will be more grandchildren in the future, but if Tuff ever finds out about this, heโ€™ll be furious!โ€

Maggie was scared out of her wits.

If her son really cut ties with her and ran off to Norava to be a live-in son-in-law, then her whole life would have been for nothing.

The Prescott family fortune would just end up in the hands of the other branches.

โ€œMaggie, I really donโ€™t think I can go through with thisโ€ฆโ€ Joyce felt her chest tighten, anxiety swirling inside her.

โ€œIs she just after more money?โ€ Maggieโ€™s expression turned sour. โ€œ300 thousand dollars isnโ€™t enough for her? How much does she want?โ€

Joyce drew in a shaky breath. โ€œItโ€™s not just about the moneyโ€ฆโ€

โ€œIs there really anything money canโ€™t solve?โ€ Maggie sneered. โ€œJoyce, just go talk to her and hand over two million dollars. Donโ€™t even bother discussing with me.โ€

โ€œMaggie, when the doctor found out she was pregnant, he said she canโ€™t have an abortionโ€”if she does, sheโ€™ll never be able to have children again,โ€ Joyce said quietly.

โ€œWhat?โ€ Maggie blurted out, her face turning pale.

โ€˜Does this mean that girl has no choice but to keep the baby?โ€˜ She thought, panic rising in her chest.

It was one thing to force herself to get rid of it before it was born, but once there was a real, living child in front of her, could she really bring herself to do something so cruel?

Maggie started pacing in circles, anxiety written all over her face. โ€œWhat are we supposed to do now? Tuff absolutely cannot find out about thisโ€ฆโ€

Joyce picked up the water, sipped it delicately, and stayed silent.

โ€œJoyce, you have to help me,โ€ Maggie said, sitting down right in front of her, her eyes burning with urgency.

โ€œIโ€™ve already done everything I can to help you have a grandchild,โ€ Joyce replied quietly.

โ€œYou found her, and you came up with the planโ€“now you need to figure something else out!โ€ Maggie demanded.

As the eldest daughter-in-law in a high-society family, Maggie knew just how messy things could get when a household like theirs was thrown into chaos.

Sheโ€™d never really thought Kayla was good enough, but now that Kayla was officially part of the family, as long as she could have children, Maggie figured there was nothing left to fuss about.

โ€œMaggie, thatโ€™s just not fair. Iโ€™ve been doing everything I can for you,โ€ Joyce said, sounding genuinely hurt.

โ€œI know you mean well, and thatโ€™s why I need you to think of something else! If you can make this happen, Iโ€™ll owe you big time!โ€ Maggie urged.

Joyce let out a quiet smile, her gaze landing right on the necklace Maggie was wearing.

The icy green emerald necklace gleamed against Maggieโ€™s skin, making her complexion look smooth and flawless.

Maggie paused, then instinctively reached up to touch her neck.

This was the Prescott familyโ€™s ultimate status symbolโ€“the piece every daughter-in-law had schemed for. Only after Maggie became the lady of the house did her mother-in-law finally hand it over to her.

โ€œJoyce, this isnโ€™t something I can just hand overโ€ฆโ€ Maggie said, her voice tense as she clutched the necklace.

โ€œI never asked for it,โ€ Joyce replied with a faint smile, her eyes lowered.

She simply kept sipping her water, refusing to say another word.

Maggie was getting seriously annoyed.

โ€˜I have to be careful with my son at home, and now I have to be careful with my goddaughter too?โ€˜ Maggie grumbled inwardly, her jaw clenched.

But things had gotten way too serious: Gritting her teeth, Maggie finally took off the emerald necklace and shoved it into Joyceโ€™s hand. โ€œCome on, you know Iโ€™m only saying this because I care! I never had a daughter, so youโ€™re basically family to me. If I donโ€™t spoil you, who else would I?โ€

โ€œMom, this really isnโ€™t rightโ€ฆโ€ Joyce pretended to protest.

โ€œJoyce, you have to make this happen!โ€ Maggie insisted.

โ€œDonโ€™t worry. Iโ€™ll handle it. As for the money, Iโ€™ll cover it,โ€ Joyce assured her.

โ€œOh? You really donโ€™t have to do that!โ€ Maggie said, a bit surprised.

โ€œIt wonโ€™t take much to settle this,โ€ Joyce replied casually.

โ€œIf you say so, then fine,โ€ Maggie agreed, finally letting out a sigh of relief.

Feeling relieved at last, Maggie took Joyceโ€™s hand and showered her with sweet, affectionate words.

But Joyce barely listened, her thoughts drifting as she idly played with the emerald necklace around her neck.
