Chapter 303
Amelia finally made her way back to the Kingsley family in Norava.
Everyone had been anxiously waiting by the door, watching the clock. The moment they saw her return safe and sound, they all let out a collective sigh of relief.
“Amy, you must’ve been scared.” Kayla was the first to rush forward and hug her.
“Kayla, I’m sorry, I–” Amelia shook her head, guilt all over her face.
“It’s not your fault. This was all part of Monroe’s plan. There was no way to avoid it,” Kayla reassured her. “You can’t just stay cooped up at home forever.”
“Honestly, it’s on us – the Kyle family – for not fully understanding Monroe’s capabilities,” Aiden chimed in, taking the blame. He looked at Amelia with concern and asked anxiously, “Are you okay?”
“Monroe didn’t hurt me or the kids. He just locked us up in a house at the foot of the mountain. Before I came back, I saw Landon and told him everything,” Amelia explained.
But she hesitated for a while, a thought lingering in her mind that she didn’t dare voice.
‘Do they know Landon is just pretending to have amnesia?’ she wondered.
“Don’t worry. He didn’t lose his memory this time. He won’t forget you,” Kayla reassured her.
“Kayla, did you all know?” Amelia asked.
“Yeah, we all knew,” Kayla replied, then smiled and patted her on the shoulder, trying to ease the tension.
Aiden felt a sting in his heart, sounding a bit aggrieved. “You still don’t trust me?”
“Aiden really pulled his weight this time. Looks like we’re allies from now on,” Kayla teased.
Amelia couldn’t help but think, ‘Are you sure you’re not just pitching in because you need the antidote I’ve got?’
“I don’t like you anymore!” Aiden blurted out.
At this, Amelia trusted him even less now.
‘Total nutcase! Both the Kyle family and the Montgomery family are insane!’ she thought.
“He’s chasing after Night Owl now,” Kayla blurted out Aiden’s secret in front of everyone, not holding back at all.
Aiden’s face turned bright red. “Kayla, can’t you let me save a little face?”
“Who cares about saving face? Amy’s home now. Let’s all get some rest,” Kayla said, linking arms with Amelia and heading to the room to check on the kids.
As they passed the living room, Amelia paused, her gaze falling on a frail little bundle curled up on the couch.
‘Is that Night Owl?’ Amelia wondered.
‘She looks even skinnier and paler in real life than in the photos,’ she thought.
‘Even with all that noise earlier, she’s still asleep. She must be totally wiped out,’ she mused.
Her nose stung with emotion.
“Let her sleep. We’ll talk to her tomorrow,” Kayla said softly.
“Mm,” Amelia nodded.
The two of them entered the kids' room.
Landen and Kimsey, freshly washed and smelling sweet thanks to Kayla, were already fast asleep in their little bed.
Landen looked just like a little grown-up, his right arm stretched out so Kimsey could snuggle up under his arm.
Amelia stood by the bedside for a long while, unable to bring herself to disturb them.
“Want me to keep you company tonight?” Kayla asked.
“No need,” Amelia replied, shaking her head. “Kayla, I’m not that fragile.”
“I know. But with Landon not home, it’s on me to look after you,” Kayla let out a sigh.
‘I’m just worried she’ll start overthinking and end up losing sleep all night… If she gets any skinnier, Landon will be heartbroken when he comes back,’ she thought.
There was something else she needed to take care of, but she decided to wait until Amelia was in a better mood.
Since they were living together, it’d be easier to find the right time.
“Kayla, Landon will come back,” Amelia said, thinking Kayla was worried and trying to reassure her.
“Of course! He’s working so hard, and we’re not going to slack off either,” Kayla replied. “The Flying Tiger Sect, the Zuckerberg family, and the Kyle family are all on standby.”
“When you guys take action, bring me with you,” Amelia said.
“That’s not necessary,” Kayla rejected.
She wouldn’t dare bring Amelia along.
It was way too dangerous, with bullets flying left and right. And besides, she didn’t want to frighten her.
“Kayla, I can hear Landon’s thoughts,” Amelia whispered.
“W–What did you just say?” Kayla’s mouth fell open in shock.
“I have a special power – I can hear his thoughts. That’s the only reason he was able to keep Kingsley Group safe even while he was in a coma,” Amelia confessed.
Hearing this, Kayla was in shock.
She never would’ve dreamed that her brother and sister-in-law had this kind of telepathic bond!
But knowing that Monroe could control time, Amelia’s being able to hear Landon’s thoughts seemed pretty easy to accept.
And honestly, this was a godsend! The best news ever!
When it came time for the showdown with Monroe, they’d be able to get the inside scoop on Landon’s plans straight from Amelia, making their inside-outside teamwork flawless.
“Amy, don’t tell anyone else about this,” Kayla said nervously.
“It’s just between the three of us,” Amelia replied.
‘If I didn’t want to be involved in the mission to save Landon, I wouldn’t have told you about this,’ she thought.
“Alright, get some sleep! Rest up and recharge for the next few days,” Kayla said.
“Mm,” Amelia nodded.
Kayla then left the room in relief.
Amelia lay down as well.
This was Landon’s bed – their wedding bed. The moment she closed her eyes, all those little memories they’d shared came rushing back.
‘Landon, please come back to me soon…’ Amelia murmured to herself.
On the same earth, under the same moon, Landon couldn’t get a wink of sleep either.
All because Monica just wouldn’t shut up!
“Hubby, when are you going to wake up? Open your eyes and look at me!
“We haven’t seen each other in days. I miss you so much.
“Hubby, wake up! It’s been ages since your surgery – why are you still out cold?” Monica whined.
That syrupy “hubby” was enough to make Landon’s stomach churn.
But he had to endure it.
Bill had told him that after the chip implant surgery, he’d be drowsy for some time.
Anyway, until he was ready to strike back, pretending to sleep was the best way to protect himself.
“Hubby, guess what I brought you? It’s super tasty! Wake up and try it!” Monica pulled out the so-called “insect egg,” pinching it delicately between her fingers.
Landon barely cracked his eyes open for a peek, saw what it was, and quickly shut them again.
‘Nothing good ever comes from the Montgomery family. No way am I touching that stuff.
‘Not a chance,’ he thought.
“Hubby, if you eat this, you’ll get better. Then we can be together forever!” Monica babbled on, not letting up for a second.
‘Something’s definitely off here,’ Landon thought, growing even more suspicious.
‘If it’s really that amazing, why doesn’t she eat it herself?’ he wondered.
‘No way. I need to figure out a way to get out of this,’ he thought.
“Miss Monica, it’s time to come downstairs for dinner,” called the butler, Paul Sanchez, who was nearly fifty.
“I’m not hungry,” Monica pouted, looking annoyed.
“Mr. Monroe is waiting for you, Miss Monica,” Paul reminded.
Monica might be spoiled, but she and her father, Monroe, were as close as could be.
When she heard her dad was waiting for her with an empty stomach, she dragged herself up, grumbling, “Yeah, yeah, I know.”
Suddenly, Landon reached out and grabbed her hand.
“Oh, you’re awake?” Monica’s face lit up with excitement as she leaned over the bed to look at him.
Landon’s eyes were half-closed, looking like he was barely awake as he mumbled, “Mm…”
“Hubby’s awake! Time to eat!” Monica exclaimed, excitedly trying to shove the love spell into Landon’s mouth.
But Landon clamped his lips shut, barely managing to keep the thing between them.
He didn’t dare bite down, afraid he’d accidentally crush whatever that weird thing was.
Then, murmuring softly, he pulled Monica down and kissed her on the lips.
With the kiss, Monica’s heart was thundering in her chest.
‘He kissed me? He kissed me! Ahaha, the love spell works!’ Monica thought, giddy with excitement.
She parted her lips just a little, making it easy for Landon to deepen the kiss.
She was already melting, her whole body turning to jelly before Landon had even done anything.
As for thinking? Her brain had completely short-circuited.
Taking advantage of the moment, Landon slipped the love spell into her mouth, then pushed her away in disgust.
“Ah-” Monica let out a cry.
She fell straight to the floor unprepared.
Paul rushed over to help her up. “Miss Monica, are you alright?”
Monica looked up, staring blankly at Paul’s face. Then, out of nowhere, she threw her arms around his neck. “Hubby…”
