Chapter 195

Richard and Alan were in the most prestigious Havanian restaurant in Dudore. Today was the day they had planned to treat Suzanne to a meal. Richard had clearly planned ahead. The moment they took their seats, the servers started bringing out multiple dishes, all the most expensive the restaurant offered.

Alan poured Suzanne a glass of red wine and placed it gently before her. Suzanne replied softly, “Thanks.”

Richard looked warmly at Suzanne and asked with a smile, “Do you want to enter a marital alliance, Dr. Smith?”

The sudden question caused Suzanne to choke on her drink. Alan handed her some tissues, which Suzanne promptly took and thanked him with a nod. She continued to cough.

Richard was a little helpless. He just realized his question was a little too direct. He looked at Suzanne apologetically and said, “My apologies. I’ve overstepped.”

He quickly explained his reasoning. “The situation with your family seems a little complicated, and I want to help you. With the Alvarez family as your support, no one would dare bully you again.”

He looked at Suzanne, his heart aching for her. For a young lady to be treated so by her father… If this happened to others, they would have already broken down.

Suzanne waved her hand dismissively and did all she could to suppress her cough. “It’s fine. I can easily deal with all of this.”

Alan wasn’t surprised by her answer; he had already asked her about it before. He just didn’t expect his father to share his sentiments.

Richard sighed exasperatedly. She was a headstrong one. He initially wanted her to become his daughter-in-law. That would be very beneficial for the Alvarez family and would make it a lot easier for Suzanne to deal with her current situation. But she didn’t agree to it, and he had to respect that.

Alan looked at Suzanne and said, “This seafood chowder tastes pretty good. Try it!” He had even arranged Suzanne’s cutlery for her.

Suzanne nodded politely and replied, “Thank you.” She took a small sip, and her eyes brightened. She nodded and said, “It is pretty good.”

The seafood was fresh, its flavors well-balanced. The texture of the chowder was creamy and smooth. Richard saw them interacting like friends and felt a little reassured. This was a good sight as well. No matter what, being in a closer relationship with Suzanne would only benefit them. It posed no harm. As they conversed casually, the atmosphere was peaceful, and time flew quickly.

Suzanne smiled faintly as she excused herself to use the restroom. “Please continue without me,” she said.

Richard watched Suzanne’s retreating figure and let out a long sigh. “You’re not working hard enough, you brat. It’d be amazing to have Jane Smith as my daughter-in-law.”

Alan put down his cutlery and politely said, “It’s better you rest those thoughts, Dad.”

His straightforwardness had Richard rolling his eyes. He couldn’t help but smack Alan on his shoulder and glare at him. “Hah! Such a letdown.”
