Chapter 173

Suzanne needed extra hands. Working alone would be difficult; both William and Samuel let her know as well. Nate gave a nod at her words and immediately stepped out, closing the door behind him.

Samuri shifted uneasily as his gaze fell on Suzanne. “Is there anything you need us to do?” he asked. Acupuncture was entirely foreign to them as modern medicine practitioners, and standing beside Suzanne, both he and Willie felt out of place. William, however, couldn’t take his eyes off her. He was keenly curious about how exactly she was going to treat Fabian. After all, countless doctors had examined him over the years, yet none had succeeded. Even many renowned alternative medicine practitioners had failed. Suzanne didn’t hesitate. Her voice was calm but firm as she instructed, “Help him up.”

Samuel and William exchanged glances. Though they didn’t understand the reasoning behind it, they followed her words without question. “Alright.” Both men took their places on either side of Fabian, carefully lifting him into a sitting position.

Fabian, weakened by the excruciating pain he had endured, had no strength left in his body. He slumped against their support, barely able to hold himself up. Sensing the movement, Fabian’s eyelids fluttered open, his gaze hazy as it landed on Suzanne. His voice was hoarse and frail as he asked, “Was it you who saved me?” Suzanne couldn’t help but admire the old man before her. Even after suffering such unbearable pain, he still had the awareness to care about what was happening around him. She said gently, reassuring him, “Yes. Just rest. You’ll feel better when you wake up.”

Her words seemed to have a soothing effect. Fabian slowly closed his eyes again and said nothing more. Suzanne then carefully removed his shirt. His back, all skin and bones, was covered in scars. There were even remnants of bullet shots marking his shoulders—the signs of a man who had once been on the battlefield.

Respect stirred within her, but she quickly pushed those thoughts aside and pressed her lips into a firm line as she focused. With practiced precision, she placed her fingers along Fabian’s spine, her hands moving so swiftly that it left Samuel and William watching in stunned silence. They couldn’t help but wonder if she was really in her 20s. Her mastery of acupuncture was something even seasoned practitioners struggled to achieve. What they were seeing today left them amazed.

Half an hour later, Suzanne removed the final needle and exhaled slowly before looking at the two men. “Lay him down,” she said. By then, Fabian was in a deep slumber. The dark circles beneath his eyes made it clear that he hadn’t had a proper rest in a very long time. Suzie checked the monitor and noticed that his vital signs had stabilized. Finally, it was done.

William hesitated for a moment before carefully asking, “Are you Dr. Smith?” Burtapel’s eyes widened in shock as he turned to Suzanne. Suzanne didn’t hide; she simply nodded and muttered, “You can just call me Jane.”

Their pupils dilated in disbelief at the revelation, their brains brimming with admiration. The reputation of the miracle doctor, Jane Smith, had been spreading rapidly. She had earned the praise of experts across the field. Initially, they had thought it was nothing more than hype. Witnessing her skills firsthand, they now realized every word about her was real and that she truly deserved the title.

Samuel’s excitement was uncontrollable as he turned to William with a grin, “I can’t believe the honor of working with Dr. Smith!” This was a story he would be bragging about for the next ten years. Realizing he had spoken too loudly, he quickly clamped his mouth shut. He glanced nervously at Fabian and only relaxed when he saw that the old man was still sound asleep. But despite the silence, his heart was filled with joy.

William was no better. He gripped Samuel’s arm lightly, struggling to contain his emotions. If it weren’t for the patient in the room, he might have shouted in excitement. Suzanne, on the other hand, paid them no further attention.
