Chapter 371

Josie glanced at Tina and pulled Zoey and the others back. She didn’t want to interfere in this drama, lest they get implicated.

Someone found it unacceptable and said, “How can you all be like this? A young girl fell right in front of you, and you didn’t even help her up?”

Another person said, “Exactly, how can young people nowadays be so heartless? Aren’t they afraid of falling into this situation one day?”

Someone else said, “I see they all look suspiciously pretty. They’re definitely not good people!”

The bystanders’ words grew increasingly unpleasant, yet no one stepped forward to help Tina up.

Josie thought, ‘Why are they attacking us? We are just passing by this place!’

Allison was short-tempered and couldn’t stand being provoked. She rolled up her sleeves, ready to curse them back.

“Allison!” Josie held her back, then looked up at the person who had just spoken. She asked, “Since you’re so compassionate, why don’t you help this young girl up? Are you afraid she’ll cling to you, or that this scumbag will attack you as well? You’re clearly afraid of getting into trouble, yet you have the nerve to criticize others. How dare you?”

Allison looked satisfied. “Exactly! You haven’t even figured out what happened, yet you’re quick to blame us bystanders. What kind of person does that? It’s ridiculous. What obligation do we have to help this woman? If she truly encountered a scumbag and was brutally beaten and tormented, that would be one thing. But she clearly isn’t!”

Upon hearing this, the onlookers grasped the crux of the problem.

A person asked, “So you know them?”

Another person asked, “Did this woman swindle the man out of money?”

Someone else said, “Exactly! Don’t easily sympathize with the weak. Who knows if that person is really the victim? It’s better to figure things out first!”

More and more onlookers gathered, pointing fingers at Jaden and Tina. Jaden glanced at Josie; Allison’s words made him mistakenly believe that Josie and her group were helping him. He was utterly embarrassed.

As a man from a wealthy family in Aloville, he had never been so discomfited, especially not in front of a girl he had once pursued and looked down upon. He grabbed Tina and dragged her, trying to push through the crowd.

“I was tricked by this woman,” he said.

As he passed Josie, he glanced at her. “Once I’ve dealt with this, I’ll come apologize to you.”

Josie pursed her lips and shook her head. “That’s quite unnecessary. I don’t want it!”

Hearing this, the crowd became agitated again.

A person asked, “Young lady, could this man be your ex-boyfriend?”

Another person said, “He cheated on you with this woman, and now that they’ve broken up, he wants to get back with you?”

A third said, “No wonder you didn’t help this woman. Turns out she’s a mistress?”

Someone else said, “Then it serves her right to be beaten!”

The few people exchanged bewildered glances. It was clear that these people had incredibly wild imaginations, daring to think of anything.

Josie was speechless. She said, “Everyone, stop making wild guesses. He’s not my ex-boyfriend. At best, he was just my former teammate. We had the same mentor. I don’t even know this woman. I’m unaware of their relationship. I didn’t help her simply because I didn’t want to get involved. After all, even though this man is a jerk, he never used to hit women!”

The implication was that since he hit this woman, she must have done something unforgivable.

“That’s right. Everyone, make way.” Zoey pulled Josie and the others away. She added, “Since we know them, we prefer not to interfere. If this man actually resorts to violence, you can call the police!”

Allison glanced at everyone. “No matter their relationship or the reason for the conflict, resorting to violence is unacceptable. If anyone saw it, call the police!”

After saying this, they turned and got on the escalator. Just then, the mall’s security guards arrived, alerted by the commotion.
