โNo, of course not. Iโm not a gold digger. Why would I do such things? I was genuinely attracted by Mr. Reedshawโs charisma, Lโฆโ Allison couldnโt explain it clearly. Her heart just wouldnโt stop; it was out of control!
โThen what are you afraid of?โ Josie sighed slightly. She added, โHowever, since you know you canโt like him, why do you insist on making things difficult for yourself? Are you really not considering changing departments?โ
Allison thought about it but couldnโt bring herself to do it. She said, โNo, Iโll just keep my distance from him, I promise! I wonโt hurt anyone.โ
Josie felt both distressed and self-reproachful. โYouโre simply asking for trouble!โ Josie was about to comfort Allison further when she received a call from Sean. โAre you at school?โ
โYes!โ Josie replied, โWhatโs up?โ
Seanโs voice was serious. โIs Allison with you?โ
โYes, she is. Are you looking for her?โ Josie was a little surprised.
Sean denied it. โIโm not looking for her. My uncle called her, but she didnโt pick up. I think he has something urgent to do. He asked me to check what is up with her. Is she okay?โ
Josie was slightly surprised. โElliot is looking for Allison? Is it urgent? Why is he worried about her? Whatโs going on?โ
Sean also found this a bit strange. โReportedly, before work ended, they were alone for half an hourโฆโ Sean paused slightly. โIs Allison really okay?โ
โShe doesnโt seem to be in trouble. Iโll ask her again!โ Josie felt uncertain. โWait for me a moment. Iโll call you back shortly.โ
Josie hung up the phone and looked suspiciously at Allison.
โWhatโs wrong? Why are you looking at me like that?โ Allison sat up. โDid something happen? Is Sean looking for you? Then go ahead. Donโt mind me.โ
Josie pulled up a chair and sat in front of her. โAllison, Mr. Reedshaw called you, but you didnโt answer. Do you want to call him back?โ
Allison looked nervous as she quickly pulled out her phone. โMy phone is dead!โ She looked miserable as she quickly found the charger. โOh no, how could this happen?โ
Seeing that she was upset but didnโt seem like anything serious had happened, Josie felt a little relieved. She asked, โTell me honestly, did anything happen between you and Mr. Reedshaw? Are you truly okay?โ
โNothing happened.โ Allison was confused. She explained, โHe just fainted from low blood sugar, and I gave him half a cup of water mixed with sugar. As soon as he woke up, he told me to go home. Because I realized my feelings, I was a bit flustered, so I went straight back to school!โ
Allison was straightforward and not one for mind games, so Josie believed that she was not lying. Josie thought, โSo nothing happened during that half hour. Did Mr. Reedshaw really need her for something?โ
Josie pursed her lips. โYou call Mr. Reedshaw back, and Iโll call Sean back.โ She walked out to the corridor to call Sean back.
Just as she finished talking about Elliotโs fainting, a gasp came from the room. Holding her phone, Josie immediately went into the room. โAllison?โ
โJosieโฆโ Allison stared at the phone with a black screen, on the verge of tears. She said, โMr. Reedshaw told me not to tell anyone about his fainting, but Iโve already told you. You really mustnโt tell anyone else. He said this was too embarrassing!โ
Josie fell silent. She laughed, a mix of amusement and exasperation. โI just told Sean about it!โ
Allison said, โOh no, itโs over! If Mr. Reedshaw finds out, heโll definitely think Iโm untrustworthy and extremely gossipy. He barely has any impression of me to begin with, and now his impression of me will be quite bad!โ Allisonโs eyes were red.
Josie, however, was thinking of something else. She thought, โIf Elliot simply fainted from low blood sugar, why did he specifically tell Allison not to talk about it? He didnโt say anything when it happened, only remembering to call afterwards? This doesnโt add up!โ
