Tripp was about to explain when Josie pulled him back.
Josie was truly speechless. Feeling frustrated, she managed a slight smile and said, “Mrs. Kinberg, you’re overthinking it. I’m not Natalie, and I don’t consider getting into the research institute a blessing. I prefer to stay at Aloville Traditional Medicine Hospital. As for why I’m here, I don’t have an obligation to report to you!”
She finished speaking, then turned and left.
Once she left, Audrey and David both looked displeased.
Tripp, seeing the situation was getting tense, quickly slipped away.
“Have someone check what Josie came here for.” David stared thoughtfully at Josie’s retreating figure.
Unaware that David was now watching her, Josie returned to school and found Allison in the dorm. It looked like she had just returned from work.
Josie saw her looking unwell and quickly rushed over. “What’s wrong? Why are you so pale?”
“I…” Allison looked uneasy. “It’s Mr. Reedshaw. He fainted at the company today, and I feel a painful sensation in my chest, like being pricked by a needle. Josie, I think I’ve truly fallen in love with him!”
Josie thought, “The inevitable has eventually happened!”
Josie sighed. “Have you forgotten what I told you about them getting back together? Do you really want to…”
“No, that’s not it. I didn’t mean to ruin anything between them. I’m just so sad. I’m worried about Mr. Reedshaw!” Allison clutched her chest, looking completely overwhelmed.
Josie reached out and hugged her. “It’s not wrong for you to worry about him, and it’s not even wrong for you to love him. After all, we can’t control matters of the heart. But promise me, don’t do anything that will hurt you. You’re a brave girl who is open about your feelings. If you like him, show it. I believe Mr. Reedshaw will understand!”
Since Allison was already in love, there was nothing Josie could do. Josie suddenly regretted helping Allison join the Reedshaw Group.
Then, she thought, ‘If I hadn’t interfered with Allison’s choice and let her go to the Brown Group like in my previous life, she would only encounter a scumbag. Then, she would be swindled out of money and dignity and leave Aloville filled with hatred. That doesn’t seem to be the outcome I want either. I don’t want to live a life without regrets anymore. Allison is my friend. How could I watch Allison get hurt?’
“Falling in love with the wrong person, the worst outcome is just a broken heart. That’s much better than encountering a scumbag who swindles her out of money and dignity and ruins her life!”
Allison buried her face in her arms, saying, “Mr. Reedshaw is almost old enough to be my father. I always thought I only admired and respected him. I didn’t think that was love, until today… I don’t like this feeling. You know, I’m currently in the General Manager’s office at the Reedshaw Group. If people find out I like Mr. Reedshaw, who knows what they will say about me!”
Josie finally understood. “So what you’re afraid of isn’t liking Mr. Reedshaw, but being gossiped about. You are afraid they’ll think you’re trying to climb the ladder by selling yourself, right?”
“This kind of thing happens too often.” Allison was very nervous. “I’m not confident I’ll be treated differently!”
Josie frowned. “Sean seems to be back at Reedshaw Group. Do you want to talk to him about transferring to another department?”
“No, I don’t think so. I…” Allison instinctively refused.
Josie sighed helplessly. “Reluctant to leave? Worried about Mr. Reedshaw? Then tell me, why did he faint?”
“It’s nothing serious. He seemed to have low blood sugar and woke up quickly afterward!” Allison’s face was a bit flushed. She asked, “Josie, do you really think I didn’t do anything wrong?”
Josie pinched her cheek. She said, “Have you used improper means to manipulate Mr. Reedshaw, or tried to gain any benefit from him, or used him to change anything?”
