She said, "I heard from Professor Delilah that the Longley familyโs third daughter, Eleanor, has been abroad for many years and hasnโt come back. If it werenโt for Lonnard, she might never have returned. Is that true?โ
Sean nodded. โThere was a period when she even considered taking Lonnard abroad. If Xandrov had not intervened, Lonnard probably would have stepped down as director of the National Medical Research Institute long ago.โ
Josie asked, โDo you think Lonnardโs request for Patti to take on a disciple might have been intended to bring Eleanor back? Could Eleanorโs years of absence also be related to the Reedshaw family?โ
The more Josie thought about it, the more she believed it. โItโs hard to leave oneโs homeland. Lonnard probably doesnโt want to leave Aloville, but he misses his youngest daughter, so he came up with this method. Perhaps Patti was also fond of Eleanor, and so she was willing to accept her as a disciple, isnโt that so?โ
โAre you very curious?โ Sean leaned in slightly, his beautiful eyes fixed unwaveringly on her.
Josieโs heartbeat sped up uncontrollably again. Why hadnโt she noticed before how attractive Sean was?
โArenโt you curious?โ Josie forced down that flutter of emotion. Instead of pushing him away in a panic, she blinked her large, watery eyes and stared back at him.
โI heard from Claire that Eleanor is exceptionally beautiful and has never married. It makes me think of Elliot. They should be around the same age, right? It feels like their lives are full of stories. Isnโt it normal to be curious?โ
Sean couldnโt help but reach out and pinch her cheek. โYou little gossipmonger, prying into your eldersโ private matters is not a good habit. Youโd better change that!โ
Josie pursed her lips and said, โHow can this be prying? This is concern! Concern, understand? Like for Patti, Elliot, Professor Delilahโฆ Donโt think just because theyโre doctors, they donโt need people to worry about their health. Since theyโre family, we should show the proper concern.โ
Afraid she sounded too deliberate, she added emphatically, โYes, thatโs it! So, Sean, you should care more about the elders. Every detail, from their mood to their health. Understand?โ
It sounded logical and reasonable. But Sean was sharp. He could tell at a glance that she was up to something!
But he still couldnโt figure out exactly what it was. After thinking left and right, a guess suddenly occurred to him. โI remember your roommateโฆ sheโs interning at Reedshaw Group, right? The General Managerโs Office? She must see Elliot often. Did she say something to you?โ
โOh my goodness, how perceptive he is!โ Josie was startled, so frightened that she wanted to run.
She said, โNo, really, no. Donโt overthink it. I was just saying. If you donโt want to care, then donโt. Iโll take on this duty!โ
She was so flustered that she had no idea what she was saying.
โJosie, are you going to fulfill my duties for me?" Sean smiled, his eyes full of amusement, as he looked at Josie leisurely.
Josieโs face flushed bright red with embarrassment. โWhat did I just say?โ
It made it seem like there was something going on between her and him.
Even though deep down, she kinda wished there was, reality told her it was absolutely impossible. She needed to stop this before she got in too deep.
Josie silently repeated โImpossibleโ twice, and only then did she say seriously, โIโm your little sister, you know. Itโs not like I canโt help you out, but Iโm just worried that everyone will end up liking me more than you. If that happens, donโt get mad at me!โ
Sean felt a little down. โWell, I wonโt be mad. I like you too!"
โHuh?โ Josie was almost dumbfounded and sluggishly raised her head. โYouโฆ what did you say?โ
Did it mean what she thought it meant?
Josieโs hands trembled with excitement.
โYou little fool!โ Seanโs hand was still holding hers. Sensing her trembling, he could not help but sigh inwardly. Heโd still ended up scaring her.
But he really couldnโt hold back anymore!
He ruffled her hair, his expression serious. โDidnโt you say they all like you? So, I like you too.โ
