Vincent shook his head. “No.”

His gaze darkened slightly. “Not only did she refuse, but she also said that one day, when we are no longer of use, we will be abandoned by Professor Lawson just like Kyle was.”

“What nonsense are you talking about?” Gavin glanced around nervously. Seeing that no one had heard their conversation, he hurriedly pulled Vincent aside. “Have you lost your mind? Letting her few words affect you like this? Kyle only has himself to blame for his situation. We’re nothing like him, and Professor Lawson isn’t that kind of person!”

Vincent snorted softly. “Really? Has your internship been settled? Professor Lawson said he’d help you. Where did he arrange for you to go?”

“Of course!” Gavin looked very happy when this matter was mentioned. “I’m staying at the Central Research Institute, joining Professor Campbell’s research group. I heard from Professor Lawson that he’s very likely to collaborate with Professor Campbell!”

Vincent’s worries lessened a bit. “So… Professor Lawson really won’t abandon us?”

“Don’t worry. As long as we focus on our research diligently, why would he abandon us? Once I pass my internship, I can stay at the Institute. As for you, just focus on preparing for the grad school entrance exams. Once you succeed, Professor Lawson will be even less likely to give up on you!” Gavin patted his shoulder and turned to walk towards David and Kenneth.

Only then did Vincent’s unsettled mind gradually calm down. ‘Gavin is right; I’m not the same as Kyle. As long as I succeed in the postgraduate entrance examination and am mentored by David, I will certainly have the opportunity to remain in Aloville.

Josie must resent me for not having treated her well in the past; that is why she deliberately said those things to provoke me. I must not fall for it. The one who will be abandoned will definitely be her!”

Josie and Sean walked a long way, holding hands throughout.

Josie was angry and did not notice that she was still holding Sean’s hand; Sean, meanwhile, was quite happy to let her continue.

Josie was amused and said, “That makes perfect sense. Thinking about it that way, there really isn’t anything to be angry about.”

“Exactly!” Sean smiled at her.

When Josie saw his smiling face, she thought of Elliot.

The Reedshaw genes were really good. Elliot and his nephew looked very much alike, both equally handsome, though Sean was definitely better–looking!

Josie pressed her lips together, considering how to ask him about Elliot.

She was afraid he’d become suspicious, but also afraid that if she didn’t ask and something really happened to Elliot, not only would the Reedshaw family be sad, but Allison would be heartbroken too.

She didn’t want any of them to be sad.

After wrestling with it for a long time, Josie remembered she hadn’t visited Patti in ages. “Sean, how has Patti been lately? I’d like to go see her.”

Sean nodded. “She’s doing great. She’s excited about taking on a new disciple again and looks forward to her disciple returning to the country every day. You can visit anytime you want. The Reedshaw family is your home, so feel free to make yourself comfortable.”

“Oh!” Josie felt uneasy and self–reproachful. Lately, her academic commitments had kept her so busy that she had not returned to the Reedshaw estate for quite some time. When she was at the Reedshaw estate before, Patti had always treated her with great kindness.
