Chapter 185
If Josie did have some skills, David would still believe that this was because she was part of his team. It was the research materials accumulated within the team, together with his occasional reminders and guidance, that enabled her to produce an outstanding thesis.
However, if she left Davidโs team, it would be impossible for her to achieve greater success, as she was only a freshman and still had a long journey ahead in medical research.
Even if she were lucky enough to take away those previous research materials, they would be of little practical use, since she had already changed her major. David was also convinced that Josie could not pass the acupuncture exam.
โOkay, I agree with your condition, but I have a condition: in todayโs exam, your professional score must be ninety or above for it to count as a win.โ
Josie secretly cursed David for being cunning. She had only just started learning, and simply passing would already be an achievement. Yet, she was required to score above ninety.
But at that point, it was no longer up to her to back down. โNinety is too high. I can only guarantee a passing grade.โ Josie glared at David.
David shook his head. โExactly ninety points, and not a single point less. Otherwise, forget it. In any case, as his mentor, I have fulfilled my responsibilities to Kyle.โ
After he finished speaking, he intended to leave. Josie, unwilling to forfeit the opportunity to obtain those materials, steeled herself and declared, โNinety it is. I accept!โ
โHowever, verbal statements alone are insufficient as evidence. I will make an audio recording, so do not attempt to deny it later,โ Josie added.
Davidโs face stiffened. โI keep my word. I would never deny my own words.โ
โI donโt trust you!โ Josie no longer cared about preserving Davidโs dignity and immediately took out her phone.
By the time everything was ready, there were fewer than fifteen minutes left before the exam. She couldnโt waste her time on breakfast.
She had just turned when she saw Sean on his motorcycle. He stopped in front of her and said, โHop on. Iโll drive you to the examination venue.โ
โSean? What brings you here?โ Josie narrowed her eyes to a slit. Without another word, she jumped onto the back seat of his motorcycle.
Sean handed her breakfast from the front seat and said, โEat it while itโs hot. Weโll be at the exam venue soon.โ
โThank you, Sean.โ Josie grabbed the clothes at his waist with one hand while stuffing a bun into her mouth with the other.
โYou know thereโs an exam today. Why are you coming out so late? Are you skipping breakfast again?โ Sean chided gently.
Josie shook her head. โSomething happened. When I came out, I ran into Professor Lawson. He brought up Kyleโs matter again.โ Josie informed Sean of the previous events.
โHad I known earlier, I wouldnโt have bothered talking to him. There was no need to say so much, since he wouldnโt listen anyway. It was a complete waste of words and even delayed my breakfast.
โBut Iโve got the recording now, so Iโm not worried about him denying his words. When the time comes, Iโll get my hands on those research materials, which will be a big help for our next project!โ
She was rather pleased.
Sean was so infuriated that he accelerated his motorcycle.
โThose are just research materials. Theyโre nowhere near as important as your breakfast or your exam. Donโt make such unwise trades again. Still, I canโt believe David would make a bet with a student. Heโs not worthy of being a professor!โ He was right. David was emotionally unfit to be a teacher.
Meanwhile, Josie felt satisfied. Although the weather was cold, Seanโs broad back shielded her from the cold wind.
The bun was comfortingly warm, and each bite filled the mouth with a fresh, fragrant aroma. Any unpleasantness brought by David had long since disappeared without a trace.
When the motorcycle stopped, the bell signaling entry to the examination room had not yet rung.
Sean parked his motorcycle and waited until Josie finished her breakfast. โGo inside and do your best on the exam. There is no need to be nervous. No matter how you perform, no one will blame you.โ
โGot it.โ Josie tugged at her collar, revealing a bright smile. โThank you, Sean!โ
