Chapter 681
Stephanie turned over and sat up. The night-light in the room dimly illuminated the space. Her face showed no emotion.
โShe was so sick, but she still managed to hang on for this long. She was quite a fighter,โ Stephanie said.
Tyler had kicked Olivia out of the Hart family, and they all assumed she wouldnโt last long on her own. But, to their surprise, Olivia had managed to survive all this time living on the streets.
Allison replied, โNo matter how hard she tried to cheat fate, she still ended up dying miserably.โ It was one thing to refuse to accept your fate, but it was another to try to climb up by stepping on others. Karma caught up with her.
Stephanie raised her eyebrows when she heard about Oliviaโs miserable death. โWhat do you mean by dying miserably?โ she asked.
Allison said, โShe was living under a bridge, and there were two beggarsโฆโ She trailed off, unwilling to tell the vulgar details.
But Stephanie already understood what she meant. Back when Stephanie had returned to the Hart family, Olivia had tried to kill Stephanie to maintain her noble status. Even after Stephanie had settled in the Hart family, Olivia had constantly tried to undermine Stephanie and steal her thunder, always desperate to maintain her own age of elegance and superiority. She had refused to acknowledge her position as a mere adopted daughter, always clinging to her delusions of grandeur. But, in the end, this was how it all turned out for her.
โThat is pretty miserable,โ Stephanie agreed and thought, โIn fact, it is quite a tragedy.โ
Allison said, โShe got what she deserved. Remember when you were in the hospital, unconscious? If Ella and I hadnโt been there to watch over you, who knows what would have happened. And as for Tylerโฆโ
Speaking of Tyler, Allisonโs voice turned a bit serious. Although Stephanie was his biological sister, Tyler had repeatedly sided with Olivia and hurt Stephanie. Stephanie knew some of these instances, and there may be more that she hadnโt known.
Stephanie felt a pang in her heart. โThank you for those days.โ
โDonโt mention it. I just want to tell you this to make you feel better,โ Allison said. After all, Olivia, who had harmed Stephanie countless times before, eventually got her karma. As the saying went, what goes around comes around. Karma indeed existed.
โSince I came back, Iโve almost forgotten about Olivia,โ Stephanie said.
It wasnโt just Olivia. As long as no one deliberately mentioned them, Stephanie wouldnโt even think about the Hart family. It seemed unimportant people were easy to forget.
Allison chuckled softly, โSo it seems youโve had a good life since returning to Fiorenza.โ
โYes, it has been good.โ Those simple words spoke volumes about how fulfilling Stephanieโs life had been since her return. Chris and the Hart family had been expecting her to be kicked out of the Giovanni family, but they were left disappointed. Back then, they couldnโt wait to see her thrown out.
โWhat about you? How are you doing?โ Stephanie asked.
When Allison left Long Harbor, things seemed strange between Allison and Yanis. Stephanie was a little worried about her.
Allison said, โOkay.โ
Compared to Stephanieโs โgoodโ just now, Allisonโs โokayโ sounded a little forced. Stephanie sensed something was off in her tone and frowned. โIf you donโt want to stay in Long Harbor anymore, come to Fiorenza, I can easily get you into a promising hospital.โ Stephanie didnโt want Allison to force herself if she was unhappy.
Allison said, โI donโt need your help.โ
Stephanie replied, โYes, you are a genius. If you leave Yanis, plenty of people will want you?โ An exceptional doctor like Allison was hard to come by. Yanis had been keeping her under his wing all these years. But Allison herself had also worked hard. While Yanis didnโt notice, she had grown up to be a capable woman. She could count on herself. Even without Yanis, Allison could still live a good life. In her own field, she had long been free from Yanisโs control.
โHow are you and Yanis?โ Stephanie asked.
Before, Stephanie didnโt ask too much about Yanis and Lilith. But Allison had asked Stephanie to take her away, which showed that there was something going on with Lilith.
Allison said, โThere is nothing to say.โ
Stephanie didnโt know what to say. Allison said, โActually, Iโm already preparing to leave Long Harbor. As soon as the research center in Yorathia gives me the go-ahead, Iโm leaving.โ Allison was currently waiting for the notification from Yorathia.
Stephanie asked, โYouโre going to Yorathia?โ
โDonโt tell anyone.โ Allison hadnโt even told Yanis about it, so she didnโt want Stephanie to tell him either.
Stephanie replied, โOkay, I know.โ
They chatted for a bit longer before hanging up.
Sebastian returned from his study and saw Stephanie putting down her phone on the bed. He walked over and took off his robe. He got into bed and pulled Stephanie into his arms. โWho was on the phone?โ
Now, Sebastian hated it most when someone called Stephanie at night. She was pregnant and needed enough rest.
Stephanie snuggled under the covers and lay in Sebastianโs arms. โIt was Allison,โ she said.
โIf she needs help, tell her to call Elliot,โ Sebastian said.
Stephanie thought, โDoes he think all my friends, like Ella, only reach out when they need help?โ Actually, Ella had helped Stephanie a lot back in Long Harbor. This time, Ellaโs world was suddenly in turmoil, and she hadnโt fully processed it yet. Once she did, Stephanie believed Ella would adapt quickly and handle the situation.
โShe wasnโt asking for help,โ Stephanie mumbled.
Sebastian asked, โSo what happened?โ
โOlivia is dead. She was found under a bridge in Long Harbor. Itโs been freezing there these past few days,โ Stephanie said.
As the most prominent adopted daughter in Long Harbor, news of Oliviaโs death would definitely make headlines.
Sebastian pinched her cheek affectionately and asked, โWaking you up in the middle of the night for something like this?โ
โLong Harbor is daytime now,โ Stephanie said.
Sebastian said, โThatโs not a reason.โ
Stephanie joked, โShe told me to make me feel better.โ She stuck out her tongue playfully. Hearing that Olivia had died tragically did bring a sense of relief to Stephanie.
โCanโt she call you during the day?โ Sebastian asked.
โIf itโs daytime here, itโs the middle of the night for Allison,โ Stephanie said.
Sebastian didnโt reply and simply held Stephanie close, urging her to sleep. Stephanie slept soundly that night, especially in Sebastianโs arms. It didnโt take long for her to drift off. However, Sebastian was experiencing quite the opposite.
At four in the morning, Sebastian got up and took a cold shower. When he got back into bed and held Stephanie again, she must have felt the cold and moved a bit, muttering in her sleep.
โDonโt hug me. You are cold,โ Stephanie said.
Her movement caused the lust in Sebastian that had just died down to rise again.
