Listen to this chapter:

After Ella came down with a fever, she became especially demanding. Lorenzo was forced to hire two more servants for the villa. As Cecil brought them in, Lorenzo said coldly, โ€œHave they been vetted?โ€

โ€œYes, sir,โ€ Cecil nodded. โ€œTheyโ€™re both clean.โ€

Bernardโ€™s face was still swollen, obviously from Cecilโ€™s rough handling. When he saw Lorenzo, he looked at him with teary eyes, his expression clearly aggrieved. Lorenzo ignored him and said to Cecil, โ€œGet someone to take care of her.โ€

Women were so delicate. He remembered how Stephanie acted around Sebastian. Maybe that was why Lorenzo had avoided getting close to women before. Even someone like Sofia would whine and complain if she got a little hurt when they were working together.

โ€œYes, sir,โ€ Cecil nodded.

Bernard, who was standing to the side, suddenly spoke up, โ€œShouldnโ€™t we find out if sheโ€™s really a spy?โ€

Ellaโ€™s arrival broke the usual practice of not having servants. Even if Bernard was slow-witted, he could already sense that Ella held a different place in Lorenzoโ€™s heart.

When Cecil heard Bernard blurt this out, he turned around and gave him a hopeless look. He thought, โ€˜Dude, your face is still swollen. Havenโ€™t you learned your lesson?โ€™ Cecil gasped, โ€œMr. Moretti, heโ€™s justโ€ฆโ€

The moment his gaze landed on Lorenzo, Cecil saw a hint of darkness in Lorenzoโ€™s eye. Cecil twitched his lips. โ€œWell, Dr. Vitale said Moalee Desert is short of staff. I think Bernardโ€™s a perfect fit. Perhaps we should send him over?โ€

This was all he could do for Bernard. He really didnโ€™t know what to say. He was speechless that Bernard didnโ€™t know when to speak and when to shut up. If Bernard stayed here any longer, he might have died because of his loose tongue.

However, when Bernard heard about the Moalee Desert, he instantly panicked. โ€œNo, no, no, I donโ€™t want to go to that place.โ€

Cecil didnโ€™t know what to say anymore.

Lorenzo gave Bernard an icy glare. Bernard gulped under his gaze. โ€œI think you need me more, Mr. Moretti. After all, you havenโ€™t figured out if Ella is an undercover agent.โ€

Cecil had a headache. This time, without waiting for Lorenzo to speak, he stepped forward, grabbed Bernard by the collar, and dragged him out. โ€œGet out! Are you still drunk from last night?โ€ He couldnโ€™t let Bernard continue. If he did, he would really die.

โ€œI havenโ€™t had a drink in three months,โ€ Bernard protested.

โ€œShut up, you idiot,โ€ Cecil muttered under his breath.

Cecil took Bernard away. The maid came back downstairs and said, โ€œSir, Ms. Turner is drowsy and refuses to take her medicine.โ€

โ€œJust make her take it,โ€ Lorenzo said, waving his hand dismissively. In his mind, women were a hassle.

โ€œThe pillow is soaked, sir.โ€

Lorenzo thought, โ€˜Sheโ€™s not just any hassle.โ€™

In the room, Ella was running a high fever. She clutched the blanket tightly with her small hands.

Lorenzo sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the pitiful Ella. He was annoyed. He glanced at the unopened medicine on the bedside table that the doctor had instructed to be applied to the wound. Obviously, she hadnโ€™t listened to him.

With no other choice, Lorenzo picked up the medicine and opened it. He went to the bathroom to wash his hands and found a pair of medical gloves in the medicine cabinet.

Perhaps the events of the previous night had left too deep a scar. When Lorenzo applied the medicine, Ella kept whimpering and refused to cooperate. โ€œIt hurts! Stop it!โ€ Because it stung a little, she kept squirming.

Lorenzo carefully lifted her from the bed and held her in his arms. โ€œStay still.โ€

His commanding tone made Ella instinctively shrink back, despite her feverish daze. Seeing her timidity, Lorenzo sighed inwardly.

โ€œIt hurtsโ€ฆโ€ Ella whimpered, her eyes squeezed shut, as Lorenzo applied the ointment again.

At her words, Lorenzo paused. He looked down at Ella and muttered under his breath, โ€œSo fragile.โ€

With Ella wincing and complaining of pain, it took Lorenzo almost ten minutes to finish applying the ointment. Ella was in pain, and he wasnโ€™t exactly comfortable either, especially with her constantly squirming in his arms.

After applying the ointment, Lorenzo tucked Ella back into bed and picked up the oral medication. Just as the maid had said, Ella refused to cooperate. โ€œOpen your mouth,โ€ Lorenzo commanded.

Normally, Ella would have been scared by his tone. This time, however, she simply rolled away, burrowing herself under the covers on the other side of the bed.

Watching her resist taking the medicine, Lorenzo grabbed her ankle and dragged her back. He forced the medicine down her throat. It was brutal, but she had a high fever. He must give her the fever reducer in time.

Ella refused to take the medicine, and much of it ended up spilled on her clothes. Because of her struggles, Lorenzoโ€™s body temperature also became erratic.

Lorenzoโ€™s face was dark as he came out of the room. The servants were waiting respectfully outside the door. Seeing his expression, they were so scared that they didnโ€™t even dare to breathe.

Lorenzo glanced at the two of them coldly. โ€œChange her clothes.โ€

โ€œYes, sir.โ€

After giving his instructions, Lorenzo returned to his room. He walked toward the bathroom, taking off his clothes and dropping them on the floor as he went. He turned on the water and stepped into the cold shower.

The feeling of being out of control was really hard to handle. It wasnโ€™t until half an hour later that Lorenzo felt the heat in his body dissipated.

Just as he was getting dressed, he heard the maidโ€™s voice at the door. โ€œSir, are you there?โ€

โ€œWhat is it?โ€ Lorenzo asked in a cold voice. Although his body temperature had gone down, his voice was still unusually hoarse.

The maid was taken aback by his dangerous tone and said, โ€œMs. Turner refuses to change her clothes.โ€

Lorenzo was speechless.

The maid said, โ€œSheโ€™s clutching her clothes and wonโ€™t let go, no matter what I say.โ€

Lorenzoโ€™s face darkened. โ€œCut them off with scissors.โ€

The maid muttered, โ€œButโ€ฆis that okay?โ€

Lorenzo ran a hand through his damp hair. In Ellaโ€™s room, just as the maid had described, she was clutching her clothes tightly with a confused and guarded look. She was so small, yet she had a strong sense of self-preservation.

Lorenzo stepped forward and scooped her up in his arms. His arm brushed against her wet clothes, and he felt a chill. She was already sick. If she slept in these clothes, she would probably get worse. She was already quite delicate, and if it got worse, she would probably be even more difficult to take care of.

Lorenzo held Ella in his arms. โ€œLet go,โ€ He grasped her wrists and peeled her hands from her clothes.

However, Ella refused to let go at that moment.

Lorenzo softened his tone slightly, โ€œBe good, you have to change your clothes.โ€
