She sniffled, stayed silent, and let the tears fall without saying a word. Her cry like that made something stir inside Lorenzo, something he’d never felt before. It was this feeling that made him reach out, and his rough finger gently wiped away her tears.
“Really that painful?” His tone softened a little, though not by much, but at least the coldness was gone. Ella sniffed and nodded, “Yeah, it really hurts.” Just moving her legs caused her so much pain. She was already small, and when she stood next to Stephanie, Stephanie’s head would tower over hers. Now, in Lorenzo’s arms, with his tall and muscular build, she looked like a little girl. Her sweaty hair was hanging in her face, and seeing her in such a vulnerable state, Lorenzo reached out to tuck the strands behind her ear. “It hurts the first time for every girl. It won’t hurt after this.”
Ella was silent, thinking to herself, ‘Won’t hurt after this?’ She thought about how strong he was and the huge difference between them, and couldn’t help but shiver. She felt that this difference was something that could never change, so Lorenzo’s promise that it wouldn’t hurt later just sounded like a lie.
“What’s wrong?” Seeing that Ella wasn’t speaking, Lorenzo raised an eyebrow. Ella grabbed the collar of his robe and hesitated before saying, “You said last night that today you’d let me see my mom.” She remembered reading that you couldn’t trust what men said in bed, but for some reason, she believed him. If Lorenzo really lied to her, she’d make him pay for it. But when she thought about everything that had happened recently, and the man holding her now, who seemed like a wild wolf, Ella was silent again. She sniffed. Honestly, even if Lorenzo had lied, there wasn’t much she could do about it. Suddenly, Ella realized that all she could do was cry.

If Ella had known he could’ve arranged for her to see her mom, she wouldn’t have had to go through all that trouble asking Stephanie for help. But back then, she and Lorenzo weren’t even close, and honestly, they still weren’t now. When she suddenly perked up, Lorenzo couldn’t help but smile a little and say, “I’m the best.” His voice had a tone that clearly meant something more.
Ella nodded and said, “Yeah, you’re really great, really great,” thinking to herself that a little flattery never hurts. Lorenzo clearly appreciated it, as a smile appeared in his eyes. Just as Ella was about to say more nice things, his phone rang. As soon as Lorenzo picked it up, Ella instinctively tried to move out of his arms. Recently, she’d already caused enough trouble, and people were starting to think she might be an undercover agent. If she heard anything private on that call, they’d definitely think she was up to something.
