Chapter 644

Ella was still racking her brains, trying to figure out what reward Lorenzo wanted, her stomach growling again. Because Lorenzo hadnโ€™t gone out, Ella was so hungry that she went downstairs in the middle of the night to find something to eat. But it was already midnight, and Lorenzo was still in the living room. He seemed to have just finished talking to Cecil about something, and they were about to go upstairs.

Ella had already descended two steps when she spotted him. She quickly turned to dash back to her room but slipped in her haste. Her scream echoed through the villa. Ella lost her balance and fell backward. She reached out to grab something, but this time luck wasnโ€™t on her side. She tumbled down the stairs. At the same time, gasps rang out from the living room, and someone shouted, โ€œMr. Moretti!โ€

With a loud noise, Ellaโ€™s body finally landed. However, the anticipated pain didnโ€™t come because she had fallen onto Lorenzo. Lorenzo moaned under her. Both Cecil and Bernard stared at the scene, holding their breath. Bernard was the first to react. โ€œOh my! Ella, youโ€ฆโ€

The room fell into silence for a while. Bernard said, โ€œWhy do you have such a vendetta against Mr. Moretti? If you want him dead, just say it. Why sugarcoat it?โ€ Bernard angrily scolded Ella while trying to pull her up. Ellaโ€™s mind went blank. She was completely disoriented as Bernard pulled her up, her mind in a daze.

Cecil rushed to help Lorenzo. โ€œMr. Moretti, are you alright?โ€ Fine beads of sweat had formed on Lorenzoโ€™s forehead. โ€œGet a doctor.โ€ Hearing this, Bernard scolded Ella even more fiercely, โ€œTell me, who sent you to harm Mr. Moretti?โ€

โ€œIt wasnโ€™t me!โ€ Ella felt like a sitting duck, unable to explain herself. She wished she could just disappear. She thought, โ€˜My mouth, my hands, my legsโ€ฆ Why did they always betray me around Lorenzo?โ€™ Every time she encountered Lorenzo, it seemed to end in disaster. She was utterly bewildered.

Bernard retorted, โ€œDonโ€™t lie! Youโ€™re in big trouble now!โ€ Ella fell silent. โ€œYou didnโ€™t quite manage to poison Mr. Moretti last time, and today youโ€™re trying to crush him to death. What next, are you going to make him die in your bed?โ€

Ella was speechless. She thought, โ€˜What kind of death is that supposed to be?โ€™ Cecil rubbed his forehead in exasperation. He thought, โ€˜What on earth is Bernard talking about?โ€™ He was starting to regret not forcing Lorenzo to send Bernard away with Macro. Maybe it would be safer if he left. With his words to Ella, heโ€™s going to get himself killed one day.

Unable to argue with Bernard, Ella burst into tears. Seeing her cry only angered Bernard further. โ€œCrying? Trying to play the victim now, are you? Youโ€™re full of tricks!โ€ Ella felt even more wronged and cried even harder. The doctor was quickly summoned. When Ella fell on Lorenzo, she reopened some of his healing wounds. The doctor and nurses were all in the room, as were Cecil and Bernard, watching.

Ella hid by the door, occasionally poking her head in to observe the situation. She called Stephanie, but Stephanie didnโ€™t answer. An hour later, the doctor said to Cecil, โ€œThe wound has suffered severe secondary trauma. You need to take good care of it from now on.โ€ Cecil nodded. โ€œOkay.โ€

Bernard, overhearing the conversation, turned to the door and saw Ella standing there. He glared at her. Ella sniffled, her eyes welling up. She looked absolutely pitiful. The doctor gave a few more instructions and left. Bernard wanted to continue lecturing Ella, but Cecil shooed him away.

Only Cecil and Ella were left in the living room. Ella spoke first, โ€œI really didnโ€™t mean to. Iโ€ฆโ€ Remembering what Bernard had said, Ella felt a wave of helplessness wash over her. She had been under suspicion by Lorenzoโ€™s people lately, and then this had happened.

โ€œHow is his wound?โ€ Ella asked, changing the subject. Any explanation seemed futile now; even if she did explain, Lorenzoโ€™s people wouldnโ€™t believe her. โ€œItโ€™s completely open again,โ€ Cecil replied. โ€œThatโ€ฆ That serious?โ€ Ella exclaimed.

Cecil rested his forehead in his hand. โ€œYou were basically using all your weight on Lorenzo. After all, you weigh over a hundred pounds.โ€ Ella stammered, โ€œWโ€“waitโ€ฆ I weigh 108 pounds.โ€ Cecil sighed. He thought, โ€˜Does she get the point? This isnโ€™t about her weight.โ€™

After her retort, Ella suddenly felt silly. She thought, โ€˜What was I doing? Why was I arguing about this? The important thing was whether Lorenzo would be okay. What if I had made him worse?โ€™ Cecil asked, โ€œWant me to weigh you now?โ€

โ€œWell,โ€ Ella shook her head quickly. โ€œNo, no need. He should be alright, right?โ€ Ellaโ€™s voice was small and filled with worry as she asked the last question. She was really scared that she had hurt Lorenzo. After all, he was already injured. Besides, she felt like she owed Lorenzo even more.

Cecil said, โ€œItโ€™s still quite serious. The doctor specifically said he needed to rest.โ€ Ella nodded. โ€œRight.โ€ Cecil said, โ€œSo, Iโ€™ll leave Lorenzo for you.โ€ โ€œNo, I canโ€™tโ€ฆโ€ Absolutely not. Leaving Lorenzo for her was out of the question.

Everything Stephanie had told her before kept flashing through Ellaโ€™s mind. She knew she always messed things up in front of Lorenzo, so no matter what, she couldnโ€™t take this job. If she took it, no one knew what kind of trouble she would get into next. After all, Ella knew what she was like. Her hands, feet, and mouth seemed to have a mind of their own whenever Lorenzo was around.

Cecil said, โ€œBut Lorenzo got hurt like this. Donโ€™t you need to compensate him?โ€ Ella fell silent. Cecil continued, โ€œThis is your responsibility.โ€ Ella fell silent again. โ€œCompensate,โ€ and โ€œresponsibilityโ€โ€”these two words felt like a mountain suddenly pressing down on Ellaโ€™s chest. She looked at Cecil, her lips twitching. She wanted to refuse, butโ€ฆ

However, Cecil was a master of words. Faced with Ellaโ€™s refusal, he completely shut her down with the words โ€œcompensateโ€ and โ€œresponsibility.โ€ โ€œAfter all, if Lorenzoโ€™s wound hadnโ€™t split open, it should have healed by now,โ€ he said. Ella was speechless. According to Cecilโ€™s logic, it seemed that it was her responsibility, and indeed it was.

Finally, Cecil left. Ella stood cautiously at the door of Lorenzoโ€™s room. The door was unlocked, and he was sitting on the bed, making a phone call. Ella didnโ€™t know what was said on the other end of the line, but she heard Lorenzoโ€™s icy voice, filled with murderous intent, spit out four words. โ€œTake care of it.โ€ These three words were extremely dangerous.

Ella didnโ€™t need to ask to understand what he meant by โ€œtake care of it.โ€ If it was a person, then that person probably wouldnโ€™t live to see tomorrowโ€™s sun. From a world of stability, life had suddenly become so fragile. Ellaโ€™s heart was filled with mixed emotions. At that moment, she also realized that in her future life, such scenes would probably happen frequently.

As her thoughts raced, Lorenzo had already hung up the phone. He saw Ella standing timidly by the door like a little mouse, her hands tightly gripping the door frame. โ€œCome in,โ€ Lorenzo said, his tone devoid of warmth. Ella snapped back to reality and looked at Lorenzo. He was shirtless, a bandage wrapped around his muscular chest.
