Beth replied, “Let’s hope so.” Beth genuinely felt for Sofia. Beth thought, ‘She had always been so carefree; who would have thought she’d love Dan so deeply.’

“Is Dan still alive?” Beth asked. She thought, ‘It’s been five years. For someone who was supposedly dead, who would have thought he was still living?’

Stephanie nodded. “Yeah, still alive.”

“Who was it that declared him dead back then?” Beth seemed perplexed. It was important. If they couldn’t even determine if someone was alive or dead, then doctors shouldn’t be in business.

Stephanie said, “It was Macro.”

Mentioning Macro left Beth speechless. “Alright.” Talking about Macro, Beth was honestly at a loss for words. “I don’t understand how he got the title of a genius doctor.”

Over the years, Macro’s medical skills were said to be extraordinary, but only those who knew Macro understood: he absolutely didn’t deserve it.

While they were talking, Sebastian and Sofia came in from outside. “Beth,” Sofia spoke first. There were still bruises on her face. When she leaned closer to Beth, Beth was surprised. “What happened to your face? Who hit you?” Just by looking, you could tell Sofia had been hit.

Sofia nodded. “Yeah, let’s not talk about it. Beth, why do you have so many jewels? Showing off?”

Stephanie was speechless. Beth slapped her lightly. “Silly girl, what are you talking about? Am I that kind of person?”

Sofia replied, “No.” She thought, “Then why have you laid everything out like this?”

Beth said, “Stefi is getting married, so these are some gifts for her to choose from. You should pick something.”

Sofia replied, “I’m not getting married, so why bother choosing? Just give them all to Stefi.” Sofia had always been indifferent to these things. Stephanie was more girlish. She could have them.

Stephanie said, “I already have plenty. I don’t need more.” She had collected so much over the years. Her closet was filled with nice things from her mom and Sofia.

Watching the two of them pass the things back and forth, Beth got a bit annoyed. “Should I just throw it away then?”

“No, I’ll choose.” Hearing her tone, Sofia knew Beth was upset. She quickly went over to pick something. Anyway, everything would end up with Stefi, and Sofia didn’t like them.

Sebastian came up behind Stephanie and picked up a bracelet, sliding it onto Stephanie’s wrist. Seeing this, Beth remarked, “Hey, that one’s for Sofia.” That piece wasn’t cheap. Beth thought, ‘Sebastian knows how to choose the good stuff.’

Sofia glanced over and waved, “Give it to Stefi. I don’t like that one.” She thought, ‘Beth is showing favoritism. With Stefi standing right there, did she have to make it so obvious? Stefi might feel hurt about it later.’

Beth knew what Sofia was thinking and snorted, “I’ve prepared something better for Stefi. What are you thinking?”

Beth thought, “The way Sofia said it, it’s like I’m showing favoritism. How can I be biased? You’re both important to me.”
