Chapter 489

A familiar scent suddenly surrounded Stephanie, making her jump. She turned and found herself staring into Sebastian's deep eyes. Patting her chest, she said, "Oh my gosh, you scared me."

Sebastian asked, "Talking bad about Lorenzo again?"

Stephanie thought, 'He heard all that? When did he come in?' Instead of answering Sebastian's question, she asked, "Did Jackson leave?" Sebastian nodded.

Stephanie asked, "Did something happen with the Garcia family?" She thought, Jackson came rushing to ask me, and was Lilian involved in that argument? Besides thinking something must have happened with the Garcia family, I couldnโ€™t think of anything else.

Sebastian said, "Don't worry about these things."

Stephanie thought, 'It seems like there's a problem. No wonder Jackson was so anxious today!' After thinking, she said, "Lilian didn't have a conflict with me that day, so don't randomly drag her into this."

Sebastian felt confused.

"She even had Mayra in her arms, trying to break up the fight," Stephanie said. She thought, 'It looked like Mayra was trying to help, but was she? Because what she did was turn it into Mayra getting beaten up.'

Stephanie was about to say something about Mayra when Sebastian's call came in. He kissed her gently on the cheek and got up to answer the phone.

When Stephanie was the only one left, the maid came over and said, "Ms. Giovanni, there's a young lady named Claire here to see you."

Stephanie thought, 'Claire? Chris's sister. When it comes to Claire, if it weren't for the connection with Chris, we probably could have been friends.'

Claire was a very decisive girl. If she were a boy, in terms of inheriting the Ashford family's business, Chris might not have any role. But considering the recent events with Steven, the inheritance situation in the Ashford family might change.

Stephanie didn't like the other members of the Ashford family, but she was alright with Claire, mainly because they had little contact. "Take her to the cafรฉ."

"Okay," the maid nodded.

Stephanie got up, changed her clothes, and went downstairs. As soon as she entered the cafรฉ, she saw Claire closely examining her coffee cup. Claire had short, neat hair that perfectly matched her black blazer and long skirt. She looked handsome.

Stephanie had never thought the word "handsome" could be used to describe a girl before. Even though Luca was always in a neutral style, Stephanie never thought of her that way. But Claireโ€”her name sounded like a beauty, yet she was handsome.

Claire noticed the movement and shifted her gaze from the coffee cup to Stephanie's face, looking surprised for a moment. Then she put down the cup with a smile, saying, "I didn't expect it would be this hard to see you."

Stephanie walked over to the small sofa opposite Claire and sat down. "When did you get back?"

Claire was in the jewelry business. Honestly, her knack for business was even better than Chris's. She had been traveling everywhere, both domestically and internationally, over the years. Her jewelry business was massive.

Claire set her coffee cup down. "Just got in this morning."

Stephanie nodded. The Ashford family had gone through quite an ordeal this time. Claire could postpone her return until now, showing just how busy she was.

Claire said, "I intended to come back when my mom fainted and was hospitalized, but I got caught up with other things."

Stephanie thought, 'Grace got sent to the hospital? Wasn't that when Steven was sent to the Ashford family? Richard stirred things up this time, throwing the Ashford family into complete chaos. So, it seems clear Steven is Fred's son.'

Claire glanced at Stephanie. "Chris hasn't done anything to hurt you over the years, has he?"

Stephanie raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean?"

Claire folded her hands on the carved coffee table, looking at Stephanie like a negotiator. "Do you think it's fair for the Ashford family to pay such a price, Stefi?"

Stephanie thought, 'Not discuss the cooperation between the Ashford family and Sebastian. The Ashford family, like the Hart family, has faced many obstacles.' Stephanie raised an eyebrow. "Did you talk to Chris before coming here?"

Claire frowned, her eyes deeply fixed on Stephanie.

Stephanie chuckled softly, "Why don't you ask him why the Ashford family is paying such a price? Ask him what he's done to me because of Olivia."

Stephanie could see that Claire was trying to cover for the Ashford family by insisting they were innocent. However, with Chris already in charge of the Ashford Group, it was tough to say that the Ashford family's losses this time were unjust. Stephanie met Claire's gaze with one just as deep and sharp.
