Chapter 431

After the third bottle of liquor was finished, Bruce reached out and took the bottle from Chris. “Now you’re confusing us. You’ve always had a thing for Olivia, so why are you upset now that Stephanie has a boyfriend?”

Recently, Stephanie had been seen spending time with Sebastian. As Chris’s friends, they knew this too. They likely thought Chris got engaged to Stephanie as a temporary fix, with no real feelings involved. Now that the engagement was off, they were no longer involved with each other. They were confused about Chris’s behavior.

Zachary gave Chris a look and asked, “Isn’t Olivia still in Long Harbor? Who are you putting on a show for now?”

Bruce agreed, “Yeah, exactly! When Zachary said this, Bruce instinctively glanced over at Chris. While they were overseas, they only heard about Stephanie being seen with a guy, but nothing about Olivia having someone. They didn’t know why Chris was so upset. The rumor had it that Olivia was battling several types of cancer. They deemed Chris should be with her right now, instead of out drinking.

Just mentioning Olivia seemed to darken Chris’s mood even more. He reached out, ready to grab the drink from Bruce’s hand. Bruce dodged. “Come on, stop drinking. What’s really happening? Tell us about it.”

Chris didn’t say anything and opened another bottle, taking a big gulp and finishing half of it in one go. Bruce and Zachary exchanged a glance, knowing that something must be really serious.

Bruce put down the bottle and sat next to Chris. “You aren’t falling for Stephanie, are you? That vicious woman?”

Olivia was back. Yet, at this time, Chris wasn’t by her side, which seemed unlikely, as he always said Stephanie was a wicked woman. This only meant Chris fell in love with Stephanie.

When Bruce mentioned “wicked,” Chris’s grip on the bottle paused. He sharply said three words, “She is not.”

Bruce asked, “What?”

Zachary looked at Chris too, a bit puzzled. Chris took another sip. The unclear pain he once felt was now more obvious in his eyes. “The wicked one has never been her.”

Bruce and Zachary were puzzled. “Who, then?” Bruce asked first.

The Hart family had been turned upside down, and all the people in Long Harbor thought Stephanie was vicious and selfish because she disrupted the family, unable to accept Olivia. Now Chris said the wicked one wasn’t Stephanie. They guessed maybe it could be Olivia.

Thinking of Olivia, Bruce and Zachary exchanged a glance. Zachary asked, “What’s the deal between you and Olivia?”

“Olivia, huh…” Mentioning Olivia again, a sharp look passed through Chris’s eyes, a look he never had when talking about her before. Chris lowered his head. “She almost cost Stephanie her life.”

Zachary and Bruce shared a glance, and the room suddenly went silent. Then they both turned to look at Chris.

“So, Olivia really caused that car accident? Stephanie wasn’t wrong to accuse her?” Bruce was completely shocked.

The rumor had it that Stephanie targeted Olivia, while the truth was Olivia aimed at Stephanie. “What is…” Bruce was totally baffled. If that was the case, Olivia was truly malicious.

Chris closed his eyes, giving off an air of sadness. He remembered that time when both the Hart family and he lamely called Stephanie a madwoman. They accused her of being selfish. The Hart family even said that if she couldn’t stand Olivia, she wouldn’t get a dime from them. Thinking back now, their words seemed so ridiculous. Stephanie had every reason to hate Olivia.

Bruce asked, “What’s happening with you now?” Suddenly, everything was mixed up and confusing.

Chris closed his eyes for a moment. “What do you think it is? Stephanie doesn’t want me anymore, Olivia made mistakes, but she’s on her way out.”

Bruce and Zachary were speechless. This was really complicated. When Chris spoke about Stephanie, there was a clear sadness in his voice.
