Chapter 386
Despite Sebastianโs gentle coaxing, it took another ten minutes before Stephanie finally relented. She allowed the doctor a quick glance, just a fleeting moment. But for a skilled doctor, that was all it took. Afterward, the doctor prescribed some new medicationsโpills and creams to help with her recovery.
Stephanie let Sebastian apply the medicine, feeling a sense of resignation. She popped a pill into her mouth and grimaced. โUgh, this is so bitter,โ she complained, her face scrunching up in distaste.
Sebastian quickly popped a piece of candy into her mouth. โBetter?โ he asked, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
Stephanie rolled her eyes. โYouโre so busy. You should go,โ she said softly, her voice tinged with concern. They had agreed he would only stay for a few days before heading back to Fiorenza. He had work to finish. Besides, Ella was in Fiorenza, and Stephanie couldnโt shake the feeling of unease she had after talking to her on the phone.
โJust take a nap. You looked exhausted on the plane,โ Sebastian said, his voice gentle. He remembered how she had barely been able to keep her eyes open, how he had practically carried her to bed.
โOkay,โ she murmured, her eyes already growing heavy. She wasnโt sure if it was the injuries or just sheer exhaustion, but sleep seemed to be calling her name.
Sebastian tucked the blanket around her, making sure she was comfortable.
At the Hart residence, Allison had just examined Olivia. She then flatly declared, โHer condition has deteriorated so much that Iโm out of options.โ
Both Catlin and Olivia were stunned by her words. They exchanged a glance, their eyes brimming with sorrow. For Olivia, there was an added layer of fearโfear of death.
โMom,โ she choked out, her voice trembling with grief and pain.
Catlinโs heart ached. โDr. Pierce, is there truly no other way?โ she pleaded, her voice quivering. In Catlinโs eyes, even though Allison knew Olivia might have framed Amber in the same way she had framed Stephanie, she was still determined to do everything in her power to save Olivia.
Seeing Allisonโs silence, she continued. โYouโre a genius doctor of the younger generation. Everyone says youโre an expert in this field, that you can snatch people from the jaws of death. You must have a way, right?โ
Olivia said, โYes, Dr. Pierce, you surely must have a way, donโt you? Please save me. I donโt want to die.โ
Since being discharged from the hospital, Olivia had pinned all her hopes on Allison, the first doctor she had seen in a long time. At that moment, she had completely forgotten that Allison was best friends with Stephanie. She had also forgotten what she had done to Stephanieโwho had always been her retribution.
Allison replied, โItโs not that there isnโt a way, but the cost would definitely be quite high.โ
โWhat cost?โ Olivia asked.
โFor this type of severe, widespread cancer, thereโs actually a special medicine that can quickly eliminate various types of cancer in the body. But itโs too expensive, so it hasnโt been put on the market yet.โ
Catlin was shocked by the message. Before she could speak, Olivia quickly said, โHow much? No matter the price, I buy it.โ She wanted to live. Hearing Allison mention the high cost didnโt faze Olivia at all. She assumed that, however costly, the Hart family would definitely find a way to save her.
Allison glanced at Oliviaโs desperate will to live and the unmistakable greed in her eyes. She frowned and turned to look at Catlin.
Catlin added, โWhat kind of drug is it? No matter the price, weโll buy it.โ
Allison silently cursed in her mind. An adopted daughter? Sheโs treated as Catlinโs own flesh and blood. โThe Hart family is in shambles, yet theyโll buy it no matter the cost? Who are they trying to impress? Alright, since they insist, I wonโt stand in the way!โ
Allison said seriously, โThat medicine costs 1.5 million per pill. You need to take one every day for the first week, and then one every month for two years.โ
Catlin exclaimed, โFive million per pill?โ Her eyes widened instantly. โSeven pills upfront and then one every month? Thatโs a huge amount.โ
Allison nodded. โYes, 1.5 million per pill.โ
Even though Catlin and Olivia had been living comfortably over the years, they were still shocked at the price. If taken every day for a week, that would be 12 million. And 1.5 million monthly after that? Even for the Hart family, this was considered an astronomical price for medicine.
