Chapter 320

Sebastianโ€™s phone buzzed again, the screen glowing as he lounged on the couch. He checked the number, dropped the teasing vibe, and headed to the study.

Stephanieโ€™s phone rang right afterโ€”Ella, practically buzzing with excitement. โ€œOh my God, Stefi, you wonโ€™t believe thisโ€”huge news!โ€

Stephanie flopped deeper into the couch, all chill. โ€œWhatโ€™s so huge?โ€

To her, nothing could beat Chad strolling through Rose Luxe with a lady and a stroller. That was already wild enough. Ella had a nose for dramaโ€”gossip was basically her sixth sense. She could walk into any room and catch something juicy. Those ears? Like radar on steroids.

Ellaโ€™s voice crackled through. โ€œThree scoops: oneโ€™s Chris, oneโ€™s Chad, oneโ€™s Caitlin. Pick your flavor!โ€

Stephanie paused, fingers tapping the armrest lightly. โ€œWhatever, just spill it,โ€ she said, dragging the words out. To her, those three were all the same kind of train wreck.

Ella paused for a second, then jumped in. โ€œMrs. Hartโ€™s hunting a match for Chris. Wordโ€™s already spreading.โ€

Stephanieโ€™s brow lifted. โ€œOliviaโ€™s gonna flip when she hears that.โ€

Olivia and Chris? Obvious sparksโ€”love? Eh, sheโ€™d bounced through a bunch of guys overseas, then came back acting like the loyal ex. Not love? Maybe, but in Long Harbor, she stuck to him like a shadow.

Before Ella could chime in, Stephanie cut in. โ€œEveryone knows about him and Olivia. Whoโ€™d still sign up to marry him now?โ€

Between Olivia and that engagement sheโ€™d tanked herself, Chris was a hot mess. After Stephanie had blown everything up, no solid Long Harbor family with any pull would throw their daughter at him.

Ella laughed. โ€œOh, pleaseโ€”itโ€™s still the biggest name in Long Harbor. Tons of people are dying for a crack at it.โ€

Stephanie went quiet, staring at the ceiling, letting it sink in. Okay, yeahโ€”sheโ€™d slept on the Ashford familyโ€™s pull in Long Harbor. That kind of weight didnโ€™t just vanish. Sure, theyโ€™d stumbled after missing Sebastianโ€™s dealโ€”stocks crashing for a bitโ€”but even a beat-up giantโ€™s still bigger than most. The Ashfords had deep roots and side hustles keeping them afloat. Roughed up, not ruinedโ€”their foundation was solid. And that ore fiasco? Theyโ€™d buried it good. Barely anyone knew the real story; to most, it was just chatter. People probably thought the Ashfords were rushing Chris into a wedding to shake off the Hart familyโ€™s โ€œsick daughterโ€ baggage. So, pushing Chris to tie the knot fast and ditch the mess? It tracked.

Stephanie squinted, a sly grin sneaking in. โ€œShould we clue Olivia in? End her suspense early?โ€

โ€œAlready slipped it to Mayra,โ€ Ella said, sounding smug as hell, like she was grinning ear to ear over the phone. Mayraโ€”Oliviaโ€™s supposed bestie. Once she got wind, Olivia was next. That fuse was lit. They plotted like a couple of troublemakers, cracking up over the line.

Stephanie twirled her hair, rolling her eyes. โ€œIf Mayra blabs, thatโ€™s peak fake-friend vibes.โ€

โ€œFake as they come,โ€ Ella snorted. โ€œOlivia thinks sheโ€™s got a loyal one? Yeah, right.โ€

Mayraโ€™s envy wasnโ€™t a secretโ€”except to Olivia, who still didnโ€™t see it, calling her a sister.

Stephanie nodded, wandering to the window. โ€œYup.โ€

Ellaโ€™s voice kicked up. โ€œThat kid? Ninety percent Chadโ€™s. Iโ€™d bet on it.โ€

Stephanie leaned on the sill, mouth agape. โ€œHow you figure?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s the Hart Groupโ€™s CFO,โ€ Ella said, puffed up with prideโ€”sheโ€™d done her homework. Digging that up so fast? Stephanie had to give it to herโ€”Ellaโ€™s detective skills were unreal.

Stephanieโ€™s brow jumped. โ€œKeeping it in-house, huh?โ€

Ella kept going. โ€œWhen she had the kid, Chad parked himself at the hospital for a week.โ€

A whole week? That baby had to be hisโ€”no oneโ€™s buying a different tale.

โ€œOh, and hold upโ€”not just one kid. Twins. Boy and a girl,โ€ Ella tossed in, her voice full of wow.

Stephanie blinked, then cracked up. โ€œAt his age? Heโ€™s still got game?โ€

Ella laughed. โ€œOh yeah, your old manโ€™s crushing it.โ€

Stephanie wrinkled her nose. โ€œEw, stop. If Caitlin finds out, sheโ€™ll drop dead right there.โ€

A CFO side piece, popping out twinsโ€”one a boy? That was a powder keg. The CFO held the cash reins at Hart Groupโ€”serious clout, right in her grip. Caitlin had always counted on Chad staying loyal, betting Tyler was his only shot, her place in the Hart family rock-solid. Now, with twins in the picture, Caitlinโ€™s seat was shaking. Stephanie could already see her losing it, flipping tables left and right.

Ellaโ€™s voice hummed through the phone. โ€œOh, itโ€™s a sure thing. Caitlinโ€™s going to bite their heads off.โ€

Stephanie flopped onto the couch, drumming her fingers on the armrest. โ€œWhatโ€™s Caitlin doing now? She already knows and lost it?โ€

Ella jumped in fast. โ€œNah, Amber just tore into her.โ€

Stephanie raised an eyebrow, glancing at the tree shadows swaying outside. โ€œYou hit up the hospital again?โ€

โ€œNope, got it from a doctor pal. Said it was a total shitshowโ€”Caitlin wouldnโ€™t let Amber near Tyler,โ€ Ella said, laying it out like a pro.

Stephanie went still, the faint buzz of the phone filling the quiet.
