Listen to this chapter:

Her voice cracked a little. โ€œHe was the first man I ever gave myself to. Completely. My first everything.โ€

I was quiet for a moment, letting her words sink in.

She gave a small nod. โ€œYes. When you were taken by Calvin, I was released to him. Actually, the reason I showed up was because I wanted to meet with Rebecca and find out why she married Damien. But instead, I got the shocking news of my lifeโ€”that she was dead.โ€

I nodded slowly, then glanced down at the table.

Her smile widened. โ€œBut the very next day, I walked into my friendโ€™s houseโ€“and there he was, sitting in the living room waiting for me.โ€

She placed a hand over her heart. โ€œI had to learn to live without him.โ€

I blinked, confused. โ€œBut you said you saw him two days ago?โ€

โ€œYes, heโ€™s two years and six months old,โ€ she said with a bright smile.

โ€œIโ€™m not sure what Damien knows,โ€ she said softly.

I leaned closer, curious. โ€œWhat did he do?โ€

โ€œYou still love him,โ€ I said gently.

โ€œSoโ€ฆ who are you with now? Your sonโ€™s father?โ€ I asked softly.

She shook her head, smiling at the memory. โ€œThat was the moment Damien stood up. I swear, the possessiveness that flashed in his eyesโ€ฆ it was like something inside him snapped.โ€

My eyes widened. โ€œSo that meansโ€ฆโ€

โ€œI never told him,โ€ she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. โ€œAbout my past, about the man. Aboutโ€ฆ any of it.โ€

โ€œOh, I did,โ€ she laughed, nodding. โ€œI was bold. Stupid, really. He didnโ€™t say a wordโ€”just stared at me like I was insane. So I turned to the man beside him and repeated the exact same thing.โ€

Sofia hesitated. โ€œNo.โ€

โ€œHe pulled me away,โ€ Sofia said, her eyes flickering with fondness. โ€œDidnโ€™t say a word to the others. Just took me out of the club. I thought he was angry, or maybe he just wanted to teach me a lessonโ€“but insteadโ€ฆ he took me to his house. Gave me water. Put me to bed. Stayed on the couch the whole night. He didnโ€™t touch me, Olivia. Not once.โ€

I stared at her, my heart tugging at the sincerity in her voice. โ€œThen why did you leave?โ€

She let out a small laugh and covered her face in embarrassment. โ€œDrunk me had no filter. I walked straight up to him, looked him dead in the eyes, and asked if he could take me home and fuck me.โ€

I studied her faceโ€“how the light left her eyes when his name came up. Her shoulders slumped slightly, as though the weight of his memory still sat heavily on her.

I frowned, puzzled. She inhaled deeply before continuing.

I returned her smile, but my mind was racing. Did Damien know about this? Did he know Sofia had moved onโ€“with another manโ€“and had a child? I didnโ€™t think he did. So, out of curiosity, I asked, โ€œHave you seen Alpha Damien recently?โ€

My eyes widened. โ€œYou didnโ€™t.โ€

Her fingers toyed with the edge of her napkin. Sofia looked at me, her eyes filled with pain. โ€œI meanโ€ฆ the day I found out we were relatedโ€“and not just that, but that our families were enemies.โ€

Sofia nodded. โ€œHeโ€™s my sonโ€™s father.โ€

โ€œBecause he didnโ€™t know who I really was,โ€ she said quietly. โ€œHe never knew my last name. Never knew my family. I kept that from him.โ€

Sofia chuckled softly, looking away, like she was pulling a memory from a box sheโ€™d kept hidden deep inside her heart.

Sofia nodded slowly. โ€œThat was the beginning. He courted me after that. In his time, he was patient. Gentle. Protective. I had never known love before him. I never knew what it felt like to be wanted, cherished. Damien gave me that.โ€

Sofia hesitated again. โ€œThere is no man, Oliviaโ€ฆโ€

Sofiaโ€™s smile faltered at my question. She looked down at her coffee for a moment, her fingers tightening around the cup.

My brows furrowed. โ€œWhy?โ€

She paused and inhaled deeply.

Her eyes softened.

She paused, her voice even softer now. โ€œI tried to tempt him. I was throwing myself at him. But he wouldnโ€™t lay a finger on me. Said I was drunk and he didnโ€™t want our first time to be something Iโ€™d forget or regret.โ€

She looked away, her voice shaky. โ€œI left because I thought that was the best thing to do. But leaving him broke me more than anything else ever had.โ€

Sofiaโ€™s expression shifted into something more guarded. โ€œYesโ€ฆ I saw him two days ago.โ€

I nodded but pressed on. โ€œDoes he know youโ€™ve moved on with another man and have a child with him? Because Damien doesnโ€™t seem to have moved on.โ€

She glanced at me, a soft smile playing on her lips. โ€œOne night, my friend dragged me to this nightclub in the city. I was drunkโ€“like, really drunk. And thenโ€ฆ I saw him.โ€

โ€œYou have a son?โ€ I asked, shocked.

โ€œWhen I woke up the next morning and realized where I wasโ€ฆ I was embarrassed,โ€ she continued. โ€œI apologized, thanked him, and left without even asking his name.โ€

I smiled.

โ€œAnd that was the beginning,โ€ I murmured.

I felt for herโ€ฆ Rebeccaโ€™s death was a hard pill for her to swallow.

โ€œI still remember the night I met Damien,โ€ she said, her voice low. โ€œIt was five years agoโ€ฆ I had just left this pack for a while. Life here was suffocatingโ€“everyone hated me, and the whispers never stopped. So I packed my bags and went to stay with a friend in her pack.โ€

She laughed lightly. โ€œThatโ€™s when I learned his name. Damien. Alpha of the Pack. I couldnโ€™t believe it.โ€

She looked away, swallowing hard. โ€œDamien is the only man Iโ€™ve ever been with.โ€

Sofia didnโ€™t deny it. She smiled sadly. โ€œDamien and Iโ€ฆ we were so much in love. He obviously loved me. Iโ€™ll always love him. He was my first loveโ€ฆ my only love.โ€

My heart warmed a little at that.

โ€œAfter realizing everything Damien did for you, I got angry and told him never to come near me againโ€ฆโ€

She let out a quiet breath and looked up at me again. โ€œBecause I didnโ€™t want to hurt him more than I already did. And honestlyโ€ฆ I wasnโ€™t even sure he wanted to know.โ€

Her smile faded. She took a slow sip of her coffee, like she needed a moment to gather the strength to speak.

โ€œHe was sitting in the VIP section with a few other men. Even from across the room, he lookedโ€ฆ different. That aura, that power, that calm controlโ€“he didnโ€™t even have to speak, and I was already drawn in.โ€
