Listen to this chapter:

Her eyes brimmed with tears. โ€œI was trying to protect youโ€“โ€

Louisโ€™s face twisted in rage.

I wasnโ€™t even surprised when he confessed. Deep down, I think part of me always knew. We all did. It made too much sense.

Kelvin nodded, full of shame. โ€œI wanted her gone so you can stay with Anita.โ€

Damien didnโ€™t respond. Didnโ€™t flinch. He just nodded once, quietly. But that wasnโ€™t enough.

โ€œYou,โ€ I said, voice cold. โ€œYou twoโ€ฆ from today on, you are nothing to us.โ€

She looked at each of us, broken. โ€œI never meant for all of this to happen,โ€ she cried. โ€œPleaseโ€ฆ Iโ€™m sorry. Forgive me.โ€

I folded my arms, my jaw clenched tightly. He shook his head, fear in his eyes. โ€œAfter your father asked the guards to deliver the letters, I was curious. I told them Iโ€™d do it myselfโ€ฆ and when I opened them, I saw what your parents wroteโ€ฆโ€ His shoulders sagged with guilt.

โ€œTonight. Pack your things. You are banished from this packโ€“never set foot here again.โ€

Before anyone else could speak, there was a knock at the door. One of the maids poked her head in timidly.

โ€œYouโ€“need to leave,โ€ Levi added, his voice devoid of emotion. โ€œYou should have been punished for kidnapping Olivia and selling her, but you have already been punished enough.โ€ And in a way, he was right. She looked like a shadow of who she used to be.

We didnโ€™t say more but just turned and walked out.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry,โ€ he pleaded, his voice trembling. โ€œI just wanted my daughter to be happy. It was never supposed to go this far.โ€

โ€œYou what?โ€ Levi thundered.

Father took a step forward. โ€œSonsโ€ฆ I know youโ€™re angry, and you have every right to be, but Iโ€™m sorry. For everything.โ€

Suddenly a maid hurried towards us. โ€œAlphasโ€ฆ Anita is screaming in pain,โ€ she said, looking terrified. I frowned, and my mother yelled at the guards to get the healer while she ran up the stairs to Anita.

โ€œWhat else have you done?โ€ he demanded angrily. โ€œYou better start talking. Because if we call the Seerโ€“and she tells us anything you failed to confessโ€“we will kill this time; no spell will save you.โ€

Tears slipped from his eyes as he raised his hand in surrender. โ€œIโ€™m sorry,โ€ he gasped. โ€œI just wanted Anita to be happy. Sheโ€™s all I haveโ€“she didnโ€™t even know what I did. Pleaseโ€ฆ donโ€™t punish her for my sins.โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re not the ones you should ask for forgiveness,โ€ Louis said flatly.

Levi stared at them, his face unreadable. โ€œWe donโ€™t need protection from the people we love,โ€ he said. โ€œWe need the truth. We needed trust. And you gave us none.โ€

I didnโ€™t care anymore. Truth or not, he was dead to me.

โ€œYou are never allowed to set foot in this pack again,โ€ I said coldly. โ€œYouโ€™ve got one hour to leave. After that, Iโ€™ll consider you trespassingโ€“and you know what happens to trespassers.โ€

I turned nowโ€“slowly, deliberatelyโ€“to the people I never imagined Iโ€™d be looking at this way: my parents.

Anita gasped but didnโ€™t argue. Not even a whisper of protest. Only tears.

โ€œYou put a spell on us!โ€ I snarled. โ€œYou made us hate her. You made us want to kill her!โ€

โ€œAlphasโ€ฆ Miss Anita is requesting to see you.โ€

โ€œWe hate you,โ€ Levi said, stepping beside me, his voice raw with fury. โ€œYou lied. You used Olivia. You broke her. You broke us. You better be telling the truth about Rebeccaโ€™s deathโ€“because if we find out you had a hand in itโ€ฆโ€ He trailed off, his voice shaking, โ€œyou pay.โ€

The guards moved forward and dragged him away, and he didnโ€™t struggle with them. After they had left with him, I turned to Damien, who had been silent, and glared at him. โ€œYou will pay for your crimeโ€ฆ Iโ€™m reporting you to the council of elders.โ€ He didnโ€™t say anything.

โ€œI saw an opportunity,โ€ he said quietly. โ€œI met with my sisterโ€“the one who specializes in enchantments. I told her what I needed. She did it. She cast the spell. I made it so you three would feel hatredโ€ฆ disgustโ€ฆ anything that would push Olivia away.โ€

I stiffened. Louis looked away. Levi grunted. โ€œWeโ€™re not going.โ€ Butโ€ฆ something in me said go. Not for her, but for the answers.

None of us spoke. We didnโ€™t move. We didnโ€™t feel sorry for her, because the damage was done, and she wasnโ€™t the one who paid for it. Olivia was.

Mother gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. โ€œLennox, please-โ€

I stared down at him. This man had destroyed lives. I didnโ€™t know what was more painfulโ€”his betrayalโ€ฆ or the fact that it all couldโ€™ve been avoided.

โ€œYou will pay for this,โ€ Louis said and turned to the guards. โ€œLock him in the dungeon,โ€ he ordered.

Tears streaked her cheeks. โ€œThis is the godsโ€˜ will,โ€ she whispered. โ€œTheir punishmentโ€ฆ for my sins. For what I didโ€ฆโ€

Louis growled beside me. Leviโ€™s expression twisted in disgust. Levi took a step forward and crossed his arms.

A cold chill rolled down my spine. I didnโ€™t know what to feel. Nothing came. Just numbness.

โ€œI was the one whoโ€ฆ who set Mr. Parker up. I planted the missing heirloom in his belongings so it would look like he stole it. I made sure he got arrested.โ€

Damien finally looked up, eyes heavy with regret. โ€œI didnโ€™t kill Rebecca,โ€ he said. โ€œThatโ€™s the one truth I swear on.โ€

โ€œYou ruined us,โ€ Louis cut in, voice trembling. โ€œYou broke your own children. And for what? Fear? Lies? Control?โ€

โ€œAnd after Olivia married youโ€ฆโ€ He continued, his voice cracking, โ€œIโ€ฆ I poisoned her.โ€

Mother took a shaky step forward. โ€œIโ€™m sorry,โ€ she whispered. โ€œPleaseโ€ฆ sons, weโ€™re so sorry-โ€

My vision blurred with red. With a roar, I lunged forward and slammed my fist into his jaw, sending him crashing to the floor. He coughed, blood dripping from the corner of his mouth.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry,โ€ he whispered again, his body trembling from head to toe. โ€œPleaseโ€ฆ please forgive me. Anita had no ideaโ€“she didnโ€™t even know I tampered with the letters. Sheโ€™s innocent in this. Please donโ€™t blame her. I did everything. She justโ€ฆ she just wanted to be loved.โ€

I exchanged glances with my brothers and then at Uncle Damien, then Father. It hurt so much that our entire family hurt and betrayed us. Damien spoke. โ€œIโ€™m sorryโ€ฆ I hope one day you forgive me.โ€ He didnโ€™t wait for us to respond before walking away.

I shook my head. โ€œNo. From today you both are dead to us, and get preparedโ€“you two are leaving for a longโ€“time vacation. I donโ€™t want to see your faces for at least two years.โ€ I thought Father would argue, but I was surprised he didnโ€™t.

Lennoxโ€™s POV

โ€œNo,โ€ I snapped. โ€œDonโ€™t. Donโ€™t even try.โ€

Time stopped. I felt my knees weakenโ€“but I stood still.

None of us responded. Not a word. Not a nod. Nothing. We just walked past him like he didnโ€™t exist, because to usโ€“he didnโ€™t anymore.

We made our way to the study, closing the door behind us. The silence was thick, heavy. Levi ran a hand through his hair, then slumped down in one of the leather chairs.

My wolf howled angrily inside me.

โ€œSoโ€ฆ what do we do now?โ€ he asked quietly, his voice hollow. โ€œOliviaโ€ฆ despite being related to usโ€ฆ sheโ€™s still our mate. But now with everythingโ€“the feudโ€ฆ the bloodlinesโ€ฆโ€ He trailed off, shaking his head. I didnโ€™t have an answer. None of us did.

We finally stood and followed the maid upstairs. The room smelled faintly of herbs and blood. A healer stood by the bed, whispering something to Anita.

He nodded quickly, trembling where he sat on the floor. โ€œIโ€™ll talk. Iโ€™ll talk.โ€ He took a shaky breath.

Anita looked pale and drained, lying on the bed, her fingers tangled in the sheets. She tried to sit up, but the healer gently pushed her back down.

When she saw us, her face turned solemn. โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Alphasโ€ฆโ€ the healer said quietly, โ€œThe last childโ€ฆ didnโ€™t make it. The pregnancy is lost.โ€
