Moving Forward
Oliviaโs POV
The healer finished his mix, a glowing greenish paste that shimmered faintly. He carefully spread it across Leviโs chest, just over his heart, then pressed both palms over it. A faint pulse of magic lit the space beneath his hands. Leviโs body twitched.
โCome on,โ the healer murmured. โCome back to us, Alpha.โ
Leviโs fingers twitched, then his eyes fluttered open slowly, dazed and glassy.
โLevi?โ Louis stepped forward.
Levi blinked a few times, confusion flooding his face. โWhatโฆ?โ
โYou fainted, dumbass,โ Lennox muttered, visibly relieved but trying to hide it. โYou scared the hell out of us.โ
The healer pressed two fingers against Leviโs pulse. โYouโre lucky,โ he said quietly. โAgain.โ
Leviโs gaze drifted to me next. His eyes locked with mineโand I saw it: the flicker of guilt, of fear, of shame.
โOlivia,โ he whispered. โIโIโm sorry. I didnโt mean for you to see that. I didnโt want you toโโ
โDonโt,โ I said sharply, frowning at him.
He flinched. I walked toward him. His throat bobbed as he swallowed.
I frowned, standing beside him with folded arms. โYou knew you were going to pass outโฆ you saw the signs, and yet you decided to go into the woods. What if I hadnโt followed you? Then what?โ I yelled in anger.
I was furious, and I didnโt even know who I was mad atโhim, them, or myself. Was it because all these years, even when we were close, they never told me about this illness? Or was it because he put his life in danger by going into the woods? Or was I just angry at myself? I didnโt even know. I had no idea.
Levi opened his mouth to speak, but I didnโt give him the chance. Instead, I turned around and walked out of the room.
As I made my way to my room, my hands trembled, my chest too tight to breathe properly. I didnโt know what I was feeling. Anger, definitely. But underneath itโpain, confusion, guilt. So much guilt, choking me.
When I reached my door, I pushed it open harder than I meant to, the wooden frame groaning under my force. I stepped inside, ready to scream into my pillow or throw something just to let the pressure outโbut froze. Alpha Damien was sitting on my bed. Back straight. Hands clasped. Eyes already on me as if heโd been waiting for hours.
The moment I saw him, I became anxious. I didnโt even try to hide the worry on my face.
โYou,โ I breathed out, my voice trembling.
He raised a brow. โYes, me.โ
โWhy are you here?โ
He didnโt respond. He slowly stood up from the bed and approached me. My frown deepened as I folded my arms, trying to act tough, but inside, I was nervous. Whenever Iโm this close to himโฆ Alpha Damien has a dominating aura, more like his wolf is a dominant wolf, and I feel it.
He got a few steps away from me and stopped, holding my gaze with that quiet intensity that made my skin tingle. โWe have to move fast with our plan.โ
My brows pulled together. โWhat do you mean by fast?โ
He didnโt answer right away. Instead, he looked me over like he was making sure I could handle what he was about to say. Then he said it.
โIn four days, youโre going to face the Council,โ he said. โAnd I believe you already know what to say when the time comes.โ
My stomach tightened. I swallowed hard, suddenly feeling the weight of that day. Four days. Four days until Iโd be standing before the Council, declaring I want to break my bond with the triplets.
โBut we canโt wait that long,โ he added, his tone turning urgent. โWe need to act now. Weโre speeding things up. Itโs happening tomorrow night.โ
My heart skipped. โWhatโs happening tomorrow night?โ
Damien straightened. โItโs my birthday,โ he said, like it wasnโt a big deal. โIโm celebrating it hereโwith a formal gathering. Friends. Allies. A few Council members whoโll be watching closely.โ
โAnd you want me there?โ I asked, already dreading where this was going.
He didnโt hesitate. โYouโll be my date.โ
The air in my lungs vanished.
โI want you by my side,โ he continued. โTo everyone else, youโll act as my lover. My partner. No more secrecy. No more hiding. We make them believe you belong to meโand the rest of the pack, the Council, everyone elseโฆ theyโll see it.โ
I stared at him like heโd gone insane.
โIโm your nephewsโ wife,โ I said, my voice sharp with disbelief. โPeople will talk. Theyโll question it. You really want that kind of attention?โ
Damien didnโt blink. โI donโt care. And neither should you.โ
I took a step back, my mind racing. He followed, his voice softer now. โThe moment we do this, Olivia, the news will spread like wildfire. Every pack across the region will know within hours. And if sheโs listening, sheโll hear it too.โ
โShe?โ I asked, voice barely above a whisper, though I already knew who he meant.
His eyes darkened, but he didnโt respond.
Curious, I pressed on. โWho is she? Sofia? Is she your mate? Your wife?โ
Alpha Damien frowned, and I could tell my question was annoying himโbut I didnโt back down.
โWho is she?โ I pressed again, stepping closer, refusing to let this drop. โSofia? Is she your mate? Your wife?โ
Damienโs jaw tightened. His nostrils flared.
โYou donโt get to ask me that,โ he said coldly.
I scoffed. โSeriously? Weโre about to walk into a room together tomorrow night pretending weโre lovers, and I donโt get to ask who she is? Thatโs bullshit, Alpha Damien.โ
His eyes snapped to mine, hard and fast, his wolf pressing behind them now, suffocating.
โYou shouldnโt put your feelings in this.โ
โIโm not talking about feelings,โ I bit out. โIโm talking about honesty. If Iโm going to stand beside you and pretend to be yours in front of the Councilโif weโre really in this togetherโthen I deserve to know what Iโm walking into.โ
His eyes narrowed. โYou want the truth?โ
โYes.โ
He took a slow step forward, and then another, until I had to tilt my head slightly just to keep meeting his gaze.
โFine,โ he growled. โHereโs the truth: itโs none of your damn business.โ
My lips parted in disbelief.
โYou think just because Iโm pulling you into this plan that I owe you every piece of my past?โ he snapped. โYouโre not here to know me, Olivia. Youโre here to play your part. Thatโs it.โ
I stiffened. โYouโre unbelievable.โ
His voice dropped, lethal and low. โAnd youโre acting like a very bad pup.โ
I scoffed bitterly. โYou are annoying,โ I said and tried to walk away, but before I could, his hand wrapped around my wrist and pulled me toward him. I gasped, stumbling slightly, but before I could regain my footing, I was flipped over his lap in one fluid motion.
โAlpha Damienโ!โ I struggled, twisting, my heart thundering in my chest. โWhat the hell are you doing?โ
He held me there with one firm arm across my lower back, the heat of his palm heavy, dominating. โI warned you,โ he murmured, his voice low and husky. โYou acted silly, you get punished.โ
I gasped, my heart pounding, unsure if it was from fear or something else entirely.
โYouโre insaneโ!โ
โTen,โ he said calmly, like he was discussing strategy. โYou will get spanked on your ass ten times.โ
My breath hitched. My heart pounded like a war drum in my chest.
โLet me go!โ I twisted instinctively, my face heating.
But he held me firmly on his lap, enough to remind me how much stronger he was. Not hurting me. Justโฆ holding.
โI said ten,โ he repeated, voice like velvet and steel. โUnless you want to make it more.โ
And hereโs the part I didnโt understand: I froze. Not out of fear. But confusion. Something in the way he touched meโcontrolled, measuredโwasnโt threatening. It was possessive. It made my skin tingle, my lungs burn. I shouldโve been furious. I was furious. But I was alsoโGod help meโcurious. And maybe just a little too aware of how warm his hand was against me.
โThis is insane,โ I whispered, struggling to breathe evenly. โYouโre not serious.โ
He leaned in close, his breath brushing my ear.
โTry me.โ
