Moving Forward

Oliviaโ€™s POV

The healer finished his mix, a glowing greenish paste that shimmered faintly. He carefully spread it across Leviโ€™s chest, just over his heart, then pressed both palms over it. A faint pulse of magic lit the space beneath his hands. Leviโ€™s body twitched.

โ€œCome on,โ€ the healer murmured. โ€œCome back to us, Alpha.โ€

Leviโ€™s fingers twitched, then his eyes fluttered open slowly, dazed and glassy.

โ€œLevi?โ€ Louis stepped forward.

Levi blinked a few times, confusion flooding his face. โ€œWhatโ€ฆ?โ€

โ€œYou fainted, dumbass,โ€ Lennox muttered, visibly relieved but trying to hide it. โ€œYou scared the hell out of us.โ€

The healer pressed two fingers against Leviโ€™s pulse. โ€œYouโ€™re lucky,โ€ he said quietly. โ€œAgain.โ€

Leviโ€™s gaze drifted to me next. His eyes locked with mineโ€”and I saw it: the flicker of guilt, of fear, of shame.

โ€œOlivia,โ€ he whispered. โ€œIโ€”Iโ€™m sorry. I didnโ€™t mean for you to see that. I didnโ€™t want you toโ€”โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t,โ€ I said sharply, frowning at him.

He flinched. I walked toward him. His throat bobbed as he swallowed.

I frowned, standing beside him with folded arms. โ€œYou knew you were going to pass outโ€ฆ you saw the signs, and yet you decided to go into the woods. What if I hadnโ€™t followed you? Then what?โ€ I yelled in anger.

I was furious, and I didnโ€™t even know who I was mad atโ€”him, them, or myself. Was it because all these years, even when we were close, they never told me about this illness? Or was it because he put his life in danger by going into the woods? Or was I just angry at myself? I didnโ€™t even know. I had no idea.

Levi opened his mouth to speak, but I didnโ€™t give him the chance. Instead, I turned around and walked out of the room.

As I made my way to my room, my hands trembled, my chest too tight to breathe properly. I didnโ€™t know what I was feeling. Anger, definitely. But underneath itโ€”pain, confusion, guilt. So much guilt, choking me.

When I reached my door, I pushed it open harder than I meant to, the wooden frame groaning under my force. I stepped inside, ready to scream into my pillow or throw something just to let the pressure outโ€”but froze. Alpha Damien was sitting on my bed. Back straight. Hands clasped. Eyes already on me as if heโ€™d been waiting for hours.

The moment I saw him, I became anxious. I didnโ€™t even try to hide the worry on my face.

โ€œYou,โ€ I breathed out, my voice trembling.

He raised a brow. โ€œYes, me.โ€

โ€œWhy are you here?โ€

He didnโ€™t respond. He slowly stood up from the bed and approached me. My frown deepened as I folded my arms, trying to act tough, but inside, I was nervous. Whenever Iโ€™m this close to himโ€ฆ Alpha Damien has a dominating aura, more like his wolf is a dominant wolf, and I feel it.

He got a few steps away from me and stopped, holding my gaze with that quiet intensity that made my skin tingle. โ€œWe have to move fast with our plan.โ€

My brows pulled together. โ€œWhat do you mean by fast?โ€

He didnโ€™t answer right away. Instead, he looked me over like he was making sure I could handle what he was about to say. Then he said it.

โ€œIn four days, youโ€™re going to face the Council,โ€ he said. โ€œAnd I believe you already know what to say when the time comes.โ€

My stomach tightened. I swallowed hard, suddenly feeling the weight of that day. Four days. Four days until Iโ€™d be standing before the Council, declaring I want to break my bond with the triplets.

โ€œBut we canโ€™t wait that long,โ€ he added, his tone turning urgent. โ€œWe need to act now. Weโ€™re speeding things up. Itโ€™s happening tomorrow night.โ€

My heart skipped. โ€œWhatโ€™s happening tomorrow night?โ€

Damien straightened. โ€œItโ€™s my birthday,โ€ he said, like it wasnโ€™t a big deal. โ€œIโ€™m celebrating it hereโ€”with a formal gathering. Friends. Allies. A few Council members whoโ€™ll be watching closely.โ€

โ€œAnd you want me there?โ€ I asked, already dreading where this was going.

He didnโ€™t hesitate. โ€œYouโ€™ll be my date.โ€

The air in my lungs vanished.

โ€œI want you by my side,โ€ he continued. โ€œTo everyone else, youโ€™ll act as my lover. My partner. No more secrecy. No more hiding. We make them believe you belong to meโ€”and the rest of the pack, the Council, everyone elseโ€ฆ theyโ€™ll see it.โ€

I stared at him like heโ€™d gone insane.

โ€œIโ€™m your nephewsโ€™ wife,โ€ I said, my voice sharp with disbelief. โ€œPeople will talk. Theyโ€™ll question it. You really want that kind of attention?โ€

Damien didnโ€™t blink. โ€œI donโ€™t care. And neither should you.โ€

I took a step back, my mind racing. He followed, his voice softer now. โ€œThe moment we do this, Olivia, the news will spread like wildfire. Every pack across the region will know within hours. And if sheโ€™s listening, sheโ€™ll hear it too.โ€

โ€œShe?โ€ I asked, voice barely above a whisper, though I already knew who he meant.

His eyes darkened, but he didnโ€™t respond.

Curious, I pressed on. โ€œWho is she? Sofia? Is she your mate? Your wife?โ€

Alpha Damien frowned, and I could tell my question was annoying himโ€”but I didnโ€™t back down.

โ€œWho is she?โ€ I pressed again, stepping closer, refusing to let this drop. โ€œSofia? Is she your mate? Your wife?โ€

Damienโ€™s jaw tightened. His nostrils flared.

โ€œYou donโ€™t get to ask me that,โ€ he said coldly.

I scoffed. โ€œSeriously? Weโ€™re about to walk into a room together tomorrow night pretending weโ€™re lovers, and I donโ€™t get to ask who she is? Thatโ€™s bullshit, Alpha Damien.โ€

His eyes snapped to mine, hard and fast, his wolf pressing behind them now, suffocating.

โ€œYou shouldnโ€™t put your feelings in this.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m not talking about feelings,โ€ I bit out. โ€œIโ€™m talking about honesty. If Iโ€™m going to stand beside you and pretend to be yours in front of the Councilโ€”if weโ€™re really in this togetherโ€”then I deserve to know what Iโ€™m walking into.โ€

His eyes narrowed. โ€œYou want the truth?โ€

โ€œYes.โ€

He took a slow step forward, and then another, until I had to tilt my head slightly just to keep meeting his gaze.

โ€œFine,โ€ he growled. โ€œHereโ€™s the truth: itโ€™s none of your damn business.โ€

My lips parted in disbelief.

โ€œYou think just because Iโ€™m pulling you into this plan that I owe you every piece of my past?โ€ he snapped. โ€œYouโ€™re not here to know me, Olivia. Youโ€™re here to play your part. Thatโ€™s it.โ€

I stiffened. โ€œYouโ€™re unbelievable.โ€

His voice dropped, lethal and low. โ€œAnd youโ€™re acting like a very bad pup.โ€

I scoffed bitterly. โ€œYou are annoying,โ€ I said and tried to walk away, but before I could, his hand wrapped around my wrist and pulled me toward him. I gasped, stumbling slightly, but before I could regain my footing, I was flipped over his lap in one fluid motion.

โ€œAlpha Damienโ€”!โ€ I struggled, twisting, my heart thundering in my chest. โ€œWhat the hell are you doing?โ€

He held me there with one firm arm across my lower back, the heat of his palm heavy, dominating. โ€œI warned you,โ€ he murmured, his voice low and husky. โ€œYou acted silly, you get punished.โ€

I gasped, my heart pounding, unsure if it was from fear or something else entirely.

โ€œYouโ€™re insaneโ€”!โ€

โ€œTen,โ€ he said calmly, like he was discussing strategy. โ€œYou will get spanked on your ass ten times.โ€

My breath hitched. My heart pounded like a war drum in my chest.

โ€œLet me go!โ€ I twisted instinctively, my face heating.

But he held me firmly on his lap, enough to remind me how much stronger he was. Not hurting me. Justโ€ฆ holding.

โ€œI said ten,โ€ he repeated, voice like velvet and steel. โ€œUnless you want to make it more.โ€

And hereโ€™s the part I didnโ€™t understand: I froze. Not out of fear. But confusion. Something in the way he touched meโ€”controlled, measuredโ€”wasnโ€™t threatening. It was possessive. It made my skin tingle, my lungs burn. I shouldโ€™ve been furious. I was furious. But I was alsoโ€”God help meโ€”curious. And maybe just a little too aware of how warm his hand was against me.

โ€œThis is insane,โ€ I whispered, struggling to breathe evenly. โ€œYouโ€™re not serious.โ€

He leaned in close, his breath brushing my ear.

โ€œTry me.โ€
