Chapter 879
Just now, Tessa had been carefully steering the conversation, subtly directing Graceโs attention elsewhere. She managed to shift all of her motherโs anger onto the Hayes family. Grace hadnโt even thought about anything else, and by the time she realized it, the call had already ended. No wonder something had felt off during that conversation.
But now, calling back didnโt seem appropriate either. Given Tessaโs state, something definitely felt wrong. She kept dodging questions, crying every few sentences, so Grace simply lost the patience to dig further.
What was done was done. Better to deal with it later.
โAlright, Iโm heading to the office for a bit.โ
Arnold hesitated. โMaโam, what about your health?โ
He didnโt finish the sentence, but Grace understood what he meant. Ever since she fainted last time, her body hadnโt been the same. Unless absolutely necessary, she avoided public appearances. She had already handed over most of the company to Aurora, but after Aurora collapsed, she let Tessa take over as acting general manager. Unfortunately, Tessa proved to be just as unreliable. In the end, the company still needed her. No one else could handle it.
โItโs fine. Iโm only going there to see whatโs really going on with the Hayes family.โ A sharp glint flashed in Graceโs eyes. โAnd are the Hayes family trying to break off the engagement now? Their son actually dared to treat both of my daughters like that?โ
Seeing her expression, Arnold immediately understood what needed to be done. This time, Grace was heading out with one clear goalโto make trouble for the Hayes family. She wanted to feel things out first. As for everything else, that would have to wait until Aurora recovered.
Tessa stared at the disconnected call, a faint smile tugging at her lips. She could tell Grace still had more questions, but as far as she was concerned, this call had been a complete win. She had completely thrown her mother off track. By the end, Grace didnโt even seem to know what she was asking anymore.
It was almost funnyโjust a few words, and sheโd managed to channel that anger straight onto the Hayes family. Tessa shook her head inwardly. It seemed like Grace hadnโt changed one bit. No matter what she said, Grace would always take her side. Well, of course. Grace had always loved her more, ever since they were young. Tessa didnโt know why, but she fully basked in it. Whatever Aurora had, she intended to take it.
The intern officer stood nearby, watching Tessaโs shifting expressions, and felt an odd chill crawl up his spine. Sure, heโd been drawn in at first by her looks, but the more he looked at her, the more something felt off. No matter what she did, she always seemed a little unhinged, and that phone call was proof. He had no idea what had really happened, but somehow she could cycle through so many expressions while talking to her mother. He hadnโt expected that at all.
Suddenly, he remembered the way Hector had looked at him earlier. So, Hector had already figured out what kind of person Tessa really was? And heโd walked right into it like a fool. Standing inside the hospital room, the officer kept silent, watching Tessa carefully. After all, she hadnโt even bothered to hide her phone call from him.
