Chapter 876

Before Tessa could say anything, Grace’s anxious voice came from inside. “Where are you right now?”

Hearing that, Tessa was a little surprised and confused, unsure why her mother would suddenly ask that. At the same time, her mind wasn’t functioning properly either. With everything that intern just said, her thoughts were a complete mess. She didn’t even know how to respond.

“Mom… I’m at the hospital.”

As soon as she said that, Grace immediately noticed something was off with her voice. She set aside her worry and asked patiently, “What’s wrong with your voice? Did something happen?”

After all, she had loved her daughter for so many years. She could sense something was off the moment it happened.

Hearing her mother’s concern, Tessa finally felt a bit relieved. It seemed Grace still cared for her just as much as before, nothing had changed. Just hearing her voice sounded off, Grace had already let go of all that emotion from earlier.

“Mom, it’s a long story. I’ll tell you when I get back.”

Tessa shouldn’t expose that her voice was like this because of Julian. After all, she still didn’t understand her mother’s intentions. She didn’t know why Grace had called in the first place. If she said it was Julian who did this to her voice, then how would Grace react?

Deep down, Tessa felt she needed to figure out where her mother stood first. That way, she could compare things more clearly.

Grace didn’t say anything more after hearing what she said. She knew her daughter was grown now, with a mind of her own. But no matter what, Tessa’s general direction still needed to stay within her control. After all, she was the one who raised her from the beginning.

“Where are you now? Still in Millford?” Grace narrowed her eyes, her tone laced with suspicion.

She couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off about Tessa. The more she thought about what she had asked Arnold to investigate, the heavier her heart sank. It seemed the obedient, sensible daughter she believed in wasn’t quite what she imagined.

Tessa didn’t understand what her mother meant, but still answered sweetly, “I’m in Millford.”

“Then are you aware of what happened with Julian?”

Grace didn’t bother beating around the bush and came in hard. It caught Tessa completely off guard. For a moment, her mind froze. She didn’t know how to respond to her mother. What was she supposed to say now?

“I… I…”

Tessa kept hesitating. And as she spoke, her voice began to choke up.

Hearing this, Grace was baffled. She hadn’t even said anything harsh–just asked about Julian. Why was Tessa responding this way? Besides, she hadn’t even gotten angry yet over how Aurora had been treated. Why was Tessa the one breaking down now?

Grace took a deep breath, forcing down her temper. “Why are you crying? Can’t you just talk properly?”

If it weren’t for her desire to know more, Grace would’ve already lost her patience. With her old temper, she would’ve hung up on Tessa by now. Everything she did was just to uncover more of the truth.
