By the end, Megan’s voice had turned a little choked.

Hearing her, both Aurora and Leonard felt a pang of sympathy for the girl in front of them. She truly was a good person. No matter what happened, she always stayed kind and sincere. She remained optimistic and positive through it all. And when it came to friends, she was genuinely loyal.

Lucas glanced at the scene and couldn’t help but twitch the corner of his mouth. “What, are you all making me out to be the villain now?”

His sudden remark caught everyone off guard. As he spoke, he casually placed a peeled shrimp onto Aurora’s plate. The movement was smooth and natural, as if he’d practiced it in his heart a thousand times. Aurora noticed Megan glancing over and felt a little embarrassed, her ears tinged pink.

Megan, watching this, couldn’t help but feel moved. Her cousin really did treat her best friend well. With that, she finally felt at ease.

But she still felt a little intimidated by Lucas, so she quickly waved her hands and replied, “Of course not! I’ve never thought that way. To me, you’ve always been a heroic figure.”

Lucas gave a sideways glance at Megan’s flattery but didn’t say anything more. This morning, thankfully, he had arrived in time. A few stern words were enough to help Megan realize her mistake, and considering her relationship with Aurora, he knew she couldn’t have done it on purpose. There was no need to keep harping on it. That way, he wouldn’t come off as petty. Lucas wasn’t a fool–he knew what to say and when to say it, and he wouldn’t go around ruining the mood.

Naturally, when dealing with someone like Megan, he knew when to stop. Aurora noticed Lucas didn’t say anything more and figured he’d let the matter go. She shot Megan a look and gave a slight shake of her head, signaling that everything was fine now.

Seeing that, Megan finally let out a sigh of relief. Only her best friend would understand her cousin this well. Otherwise, she’d have kept talking on and on. With a personality like his, cold and distant, she really didn’t know what Aurora saw in him. Maybe it was just the face.

Oh right, the family background too… He had a good build, decent height, a nice voice–actually, he seemed to check all the boxes. Thinking through it all, Megan suddenly felt a little deflated. She thought he had nothing going for him but it turned out he had everything. And his attitude was only cold toward her. When it came to Aurora, he was nothing but gentle. From Aurora’s perspective, Lucas really did seem like the perfect man.

Aurora noticed Megan deep in thought, her expression constantly shifting, and couldn’t help but shake her head and chuckle. Sometimes, she truly wished Megan could always stay this carefree. There was no need to overthink. She should just enjoy her little life. As for the rest, Aurora would shield her from it all. Love, after all, was mutual.

Suddenly, a thought came to Aurora. She looked at Lucas and asked, “Lukey, where did you go this morning?” She picked at a shrimp slowly, as if casually asking a question in passing.

Lucas answered honestly, “I went to the police station to check on Julian Hayes’ situation.”
