Chapter 814

Aurora smiled so innocently, as if she had never once doubted Lucas.

Seeing that, Megan opened her mouth but hesitated to speak.

Was this really okay?

Helping her cousin lie to a friend she had grown up with.

No matter how she looked at it, Megan couldnโ€™t quite reconcile it with her conscience.

But she didnโ€™t know how to bring it up either.

After all, this was between the two of them.

No matter how close she was, she was still just an outsider.

Thinking that, Megan decided to keep quiet.

She forced a smile. โ€œLooks like my cousin has quite the network here.โ€

Lucas met her gaze and smiled, giving a slight nod. โ€œJust a coincidence.โ€

The moment their eyes met, Megan couldnโ€™t help but shiver.

Great. She was so hopeless.

That childhood fear, etched deep in her bones, was still impossible to shake.

Whenever she saw her cousin, she instinctively tensed up.

There was no controlling it.

And while her cousin was undeniably handsome, when he wasnโ€™t smiling, his presence was downright terrifying.

Bringing Leonard here today had taken all the courage she had.

No one knew that her legs had been shaking the entire time as she stood up to Lucas in front of Leonard.

It wasnโ€™t until she saw Aurora again that she finally felt a little better.

But that was all after the fact.

Aurora waved her hand. โ€œAlright, letโ€™s leave the rest for when Iโ€™ve fully recovered.

โ€œAfter all, that situation with my sister isnโ€™t something thatโ€™ll be resolved overnight.โ€

Ever since reliving those memories, Aurora found herself seeing Tessa in a very different light.

She truly hadnโ€™t expected that a teenage girl could already be capable of something like that.

And now that she was grown, wouldnโ€™t she be even worse?

At the thought, Auroraโ€™s gaze darkened.

Not just Lucasโ€“even Megan noticed something was off about her.

So, Megan quickly changed the subject. โ€œAlright, alright, you havenโ€™t fully recovered yet. Stop thinking about people who only make you upset.

โ€œOnce youโ€™re discharged, weโ€™ll deal with all of that together.โ€

โ€œAlright, I understand.โ€

Looking at the ever-bright and cheerful Megan in front of her, Aurora felt a rush of warmth.

She had misunderstood her before.

After watching those memories, Aurora only felt more protective of this optimistic girl.

She had really been through so much.

Aurora never would have imagined that Megan had cried so hard she passed out.

She used to think Megan had lied to her.

That during her most dangerous moments, Megan hadnโ€™t even shown up.

But now it was clearโ€“she had been unfair.

With that in mind, Aurora reached out and hugged Megan, her voice soft and sincere. โ€œMegan, Iโ€™m so glad youโ€™re here. Thank you for always staying by my side.โ€

Megan was stunned by the sudden hug.

The Aurora she knew had always been strong and composed.

This was the first time sheโ€™d seen her so gentle.

In her eyes, Aurora was always the older friend figure.

Even though they were about the same age, Aurora had always handled things so much better.

Because of that, Meganโ€™s parents constantly compared her to Aurora.

But even so, Megan had never once fought with herโ€“if anything, theyโ€™d only grown closer.
