“They’re all your favorite fruits. Yesterday, I asked the doctor what you could eat, and he said you need to get more nutrition and plenty of rest."

“I’ll stay with you during this time and make sure you don’t get bored.”

As Megan spoke, she casually peeled an apple and held it up to Aurora’s lips. Her movements were smooth and practiced, like a flowing stream.

The entire scene left the two men in the room completely stunned. Lucas exchanged a glance with Leonard and saw the same dazed expression on his face. He quickly straightened his own expression–looking that dumbstruck really wasn’t a good look. Clearly, he had chosen the perfect person for the job.

If Megan hadn’t shown up, Aurora would’ve been halfway out the hospital by now. That much was obvious. So, Lucas couldn’t help but feel relieved that Megan had arrived just in time. The two of them were a perfect match. And now there was no need to worry about Aurora feeling bored in her hospital room. Just looking at her bright smile made it clear how good Megan was at lifting her spirits. That alone let Lucas breathe easier.

Megan popped a blueberry into her mouth, then casually asked about Tessa and Julian.

Aurora’s gaze turned cold. “Those two are at the police station right now.”

Megan blinked in surprise. “They’re already in custody?” Who moved that fast? She was just about to ask when, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted Lucas sitting calmly on the sofa. With that unmistakable air of authority around him, it was impossible to ignore.

Alright, now she knew who it was. But Aurora assumed Megan didn’t know, so she mentioned Lucas‘ friend who helped with the situation.

“Honestly, it was all thanks to Lucas.” Her eyes softened as she looked at him, as if a thousand unspoken words were tucked behind her gaze. Megan followed her line of sight. Had her dear cousin exposed his real identity? Before she could say anything, Lucas quickly shot her a look while Megan wasn’t paying full attention.

Megan went silent. Alright then, clearly she was overthinking it. Her cousin hadn’t revealed anything–he had just used another excuse. Otherwise, Aurora wouldn’t be under this impression.

“What friend?” Megan could only follow along with Aurora’s story.

But Leonard, standing nearby, noticed something strange. Megan’s reaction just now didn’t sit right with him. It was as if she knew something but wasn’t allowed to say it. That alone struck him as odd. They were clearly very close–what could possibly be a secret between them? And just now, when Megan hesitated, she glanced at Lucas. Could it be… whatever she was hiding had something to do with him? Thinking that, Leonard’s gaze darkened slightly, and the hand at his side unconsciously clenched. He had a good idea of what needed to be done next. For now, he simply kept his emotions buried, not showing a trace on his face.

Aurora, unaware of all this, continued explaining, “Yeah, one of Lucas‘ friends here knows the police chief. So if anything comes up, it’s easy to get things sorted with just a word.”
