“Sure, want me to contact your father for you?” Julian’s eyes lit up. He had just been thinking about how to get in touch with his dad. Now, hearing the officer offer—it felt like a gift. This could be his chance to finally tell his father he was stuck in this place and needed to be rescued immediately.

The officer nodded. “It’s just notifying your family. You do have that right.”

Hearing that, Julian finally felt at ease. “Go ahead then. My dad’s number is…”

The officer didn’t hesitate and made the call right away. For something this minor, there was no need to report to his superior—he might even get scolded for it.
