“Sir, there’s something else I need to tell you.”

Lucas, holding Autora, lazily lifted his eyelids when he heard Jason speak. In a rare good mood, he replied, “Speak.”

“The test results on that compound came back.”

Aurora turned her head, curious. She wanted to know what was in the vial and why Julian had gone to such lengths to inject it. Could it have been what caused her to lose consciousness? The thought sent a chill down her spine. It was terrifying to consider that something so serious could have happened to her without her doing anything. Why would someone go to such extremes? What had she done to deserve this hatred? She couldn't understand the deep grudge these two held against her.

Jason glanced at them, paused to find the right words, and then spoke. “The results show the substance is a controlled drug.”

Lucas’ eyes snapped open. “What is it used for?” His voice was quiet, but the simmering anger was unmistakable. The thought of the compound nearly being injected into Aurora tightened his chest. Clearly, his first kick to Julian hadn’t been hard enough. And now, these people had dared to bring a controlled drug near Aurora? He had clearly been too soft. If he hadn’t shown them kindness, none of this would have happened.

With Aurora by his side, Lucas had only ever wanted to cherish her—never in a million years would he have let anyone harm her. The fact that he’d allowed such people to get this close was his fault. Jason could see Lucas’s thoughts in his expression. But honestly, this was a banned substance. The other party had crossed the line. Even if Lucas overreacted, who could blame him? It was self-defense. Compared to Julian’s actions, Lucas was far too restrained. So, Jason didn’t hold back.

“This compound is colorless, odorless, and once injected, even medical equipment can’t detect it. Only the person who receives it knows what’s happening. That’s why we couldn’t identify it earlier.”

“And then?” Aurora asked, realizing how much had happened while she was unconscious. It seemed Julian had been eager to keep her asleep forever. Maybe she’d been too kind to people like him. Otherwise, why would they dare harm her? Had she really been that merciful? The thought was almost laughable.

Jason sighed. “And then, here we are. Once this drug enters the system, it induces a deep sleep. A single dose can last about a week, maybe ten days. Unless the body naturally wakes up, or the injections are stopped, the person will remain trapped in that state, struggling in a dream for the rest of their life.”
