Chapter 789

There was nothing she could doโ€”after all, this wasnโ€™t her turf.

Before leaving, Tessa quickly sent a message to someone on her phone. Only after that did she feel slightly more at ease. She hoped that person would see it and send help in time, just like they used to when they were kids.

Meanwhile, Jason arrived at Auroraโ€™s hospital room.

Lucas looked up at him. โ€œGood timing. Check on her condition.โ€

Jason had originally come to tell Lucas about the compound. But hearing that, he immediately remembered his original purpose. He smacked his forehead, slightly annoyed with himself. โ€œRight, rightโ€”youโ€™re absolutely right. That was my oversight.โ€

Too much had happened since Aurora woke up. So much that heโ€™d forgotten the first thing he shouldโ€™ve done was check her vitals. And with Julian constantly stirring things up, it had all been delayed.

Jason quickly set down the report in his hand and went over to examine Aurora. He used a small flashlight to check her pupils, then pulled out a stethoscope and checked her chest. Finally, he took her pulse and found it surprisingly steady.

Aurora was a bit surprisedโ€”she hadnโ€™t expected this foreign doctor to be skilled in both conventional medicine and holistic therapies. He really did look the part. She glanced at Lucas and saw how tense he was. Her heart warmed at the sight. She gave him a soft smile and gently shook her head, letting him know she was fine. Hopefully, it would ease his worry.

Seeing her smile, Lucas forced himself to take a breath. No matter what, the fact that Aurora was awake now was already the best outcome. He couldnโ€™t even imagine going through it all again. No one could handle losing the same person twice. It was a terrifying thought.

Jason conducted a thorough examination, spending over ten minutes checking every detail before finally straightening up. During those ten minutes, a fine layer of sweat had already formed on Lucasโ€™ forehead. He knew he was overly anxious. But when it came to Aurora, there was no way he could stay calm. How could he not be scared? Even if he acted composed on the surface, his heart couldnโ€™t lie. That was why he hadnโ€™t taken his eyes off her for even a second, watching her face closely, terrified something might be wrong.

Lucas looked at Jason. โ€œWell?โ€

Jason smiled. โ€œSir, donโ€™t worry. Sheโ€™s doing just fine now. Itโ€™s just that, after sleeping for so long, her body is lacking in nutrients. Try to give her foods with higher nutritional value. But avoid anything too spicy or cold for nowโ€”her stomach wonโ€™t handle it well.โ€

Hearing that, Lucas finally let go of the weight pressing down on his chest. For the first time, the tight knot around his heart eased.

Aurora turned to look at him as well. โ€œSee? I told you I was fine. Lucas, Iโ€™m seriously starving.โ€

He reached out and gently ruffled her hair. โ€œAlright, Iโ€™ll have them bring the food in right now.โ€

Aurora nodded sweetly.

The atmosphere between them was warm and tender, enough to make Jasonโ€”the third person in the roomโ€”feel a little awkward. He rubbed his nose and was just about to leave when, out of the corner of his eye, he spotted the report he had left on the table. His gaze instantly darkened.
