Chapter 219
Vespera's racing heart suddenly calmed down. It was as if someone had injected a tranquilizer into her. Her mind and body were no longer in overdrive, and she stopped analyzing everything. It wasn't time for work now. Vespera had the right to act like she hadn't seen or heard anything.
Dominic slowly turned to see Roxanne standing in front of him. He wore a gloomy expression and did not seem as gentle and polite as he did during their blind date. Instead, he came across as rather unfriendly. “Ms. Moreno.”
“I’m happy to see you again.” Naturally, Roxanne had noticed Dominic's expression. She thought he would be delighted if she took the initiative to greet him. However, Dominic remained aloof. He nodded perfunctorily and turned away without even inviting Roxanne to sit or saying anything else.
Without a word, he left Roxanne hanging, instantly embarrassing her. She didn't want to go, but he didn't even invite her to join him.
“Mr. Reid,” Roxanne said softly, but he continued ignoring her. Her cheeks gradually turned red from utter embarrassment. Even her friend beside her was taken aback by the scene. Wasn't Roxanne there for a date? How could Dominic just ignore her like that?
Both of them stood in front of Dominic without a word. Even guests at other tables were starting to look over. Although Calvert and Gerard sympathized with Roxanne, they dared not speak up on her behalf.
Meanwhile, Vespera was eavesdropping on the conversation. The more she listened, the more confused she became. Why was Dominic being so cold to Roxanne? Weren't they there for a date?
Based on what Vespera understood about Dominic so far, he wasn't someone who expressed his emotions easily. Instead, he was the type who appeared eerily nonchalant at all times.
“Mr. Reid, may we join you?” Roxanne’s friend could no longer stand the embarrassment.
Without looking at her, Dominic merely replied coldly, “No.”
Roxanne and her friend were unsure of what to say.
“But…” Dominic suddenly spoke up, as if he had changed his mind and turned to Roxanne and her friend. A glimmer of hope rose within Roxanne. Then, she heard him speak nonchalantly, “If you really like sitting here, my secretary is at the table ahead; you can join her…”
Roxanne turned to look at Vespera, whose eyes had widened in shock. Dominic’s response had rendered everyone speechless. A few seconds later, Vespera was consumed by rage. She clenched her fists and wondered whether Dominic had lost his mind. He probably did. There was no other explanation.
Calvert and Gerard exchanged glances. Things were getting dangerous. Roxanne and her friend were stunned. Why…?
The atmosphere suddenly turned eerily quiet. Normally, whenever a man behaved poorly on a date, the woman would usually leave immediately. Yet Roxanne set aside her embarrassment and smiled wanly. “Sure.”
She walked toward Vespera’s table and took a seat. Her friend did the same. All four seats at the table were fully occupied now. Vespera and Byron were at a loss for words as they watched Roxanne and her friend smoothly take their seats without even asking for their permission.
But Vespera wasn’t as rude as Dominic was, nor was she the type to put up with Roxanne’s tricks. Vespera took a deep breath before smiling wanly at Roxanne. “Ms. Moreno, our friend will be joining us later. Since you like this spot, we’ll let you have it.” With that, she got to her feet. Even Byron did the same.
Then, Roxanne grabbed Vespera’s hand. “Let’s sit together.” Roxanne sounded miserable, as if she were about to cry.
