Previously, she had presented a doctor’s note claiming a severe mental illness, and this time, she had staged an epileptic seizure in public. Who knew whom they had bribed to pull that off? Could ordinary people never compete with the wealthy? It was so unfair.

She had thought Dominic wouldn’t allow the Sowle family to exploit legal loopholes like this, but it seemed he was turning a blind eye to them. Of course, she had no right to demand anything from him—he had his own reasons for what he did. She sighed softly.

Dominic looked at her and noticed her downcast expression. His brow furrowed slightly. What was going through her mind? If he knew the insinuations weighing on her, he would be quick to tell her that leaving Tins alone wasn’t because they couldn’t handle her, but because the temporary indulgence was part of a plan to send her straight to hell on earth.

“Who’s coming with me next Wednesday?” His low, soothing voice broke through her thoughts. She turned slightly to the side; Gerard glanced at the rearview mirror.

Vespera spoke first. “I’ll stay at the office. I still have a lot to learn.” Gerard had no objections. “Alright, I’ll go then.” They had come to an agreement, but five minutes later, Dominic said unexpectedly, “Ms. Gildon should go.” Wespera and Gerard exchanged a glance.

Dominic continued, his voice still calm and detached, “This is more of a formality—no real work to be done. It’s just showing face, a perfect task for Ms. Gildon, who isn’t very familiar with the company’s operations yet.”

Vespera was rendered speechless. Was he implying that she was just an ornament? Moreover, if he had already made up his mind about wanting her to go, why even ask her or Gerard? He could have just given the order.

He snaked a glance in the rearview mirror, recalling the strawberry cake from this morning and how protective Dominic was of Vespera earlier. Then, it was like a switch flipped. More details began to surface in his mind…things he hadn’t fully processed before. He was so startled that his hands trembled, and the car wobbled as though shaken by some unseen force.

Dominic, who had been resting with his eyes closed, opened them upon feeling the car’s sudden jolt. “Gerard, did you drink?” Gerard stammered, “N—No, of course not. Haha…I just ran over a rock.” He fumbled for an explanation as he glanced toward the passenger seat, where Vespera was.

By the time they returned to the company, it was nearly coups. Dominic went to the lounge to take his usual map. Vespera and Gerard emerged from his office. “Gerard, later…” “I’ll wake Haitor tap.” Before Vespera could finish her sentence, Gerard immediately cut in. Vespera paused for a moment, then smiled brightly. “Alright. If you need help with other tasks, just let me know. I’ll take care of it.” Gerard replied, “Alright then.”

Weipera walked toward her office with a light step. Gepard, watching her retreat, couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for her.
