"She even gave our boss some money. Did you see how wide the smile on his face was? He usually looks at us as though weโre his enemies, and heโs always irritated by anyone who crosses his path. But today, he even invited us to supper after work!"
"Really? Goodness, this is amazing! Iโm telling you, I work like a horse every day. I donโt even have time for supper."
"Exactly. The question is, why did that lady do that? I donโt quite understand."
"Perhaps her husband was drinking with another woman in our bar, but sheโs too embarrassed to search for him room by room, so that was the only thing she could do."
"That makes sense."
Somehow, Rachel popped into Tylerโs mind. That was just a feeling, however. Logically speaking, he knew Rachel wouldnโt do that. They had been intimate, and he had made clear his intentions to make things official between them. Yet, she was still hesitant.
Tyler navigated to Rachelโs photo on his phone and flashed it to the waiter. โHey, is this the lady youโre talking about?โ
The waiter took a good look at Rachelโs photo and nodded. โYes, thatโs her. Do you know her, sir?โ
His colleague immediately bumped him, and realization dawned upon him. As it turned out, this man was the one the lady was checking on. Indeed, handsome men are all trouble. They would never be loyal to just one woman.
A smile stretched across Tylerโs face; he pulled out two banknotes from his wallet and handed them to the waiter.
โThanks.โ
The waiter was stunned as he stared at Tylerโs retreating figure, the two banknotes still in his hands. โThat man is so strange. Shouldnโt he be worried about his impending doom? His partner saw him drinking with another woman here. Why was he still in the mood to give me such a huge tip?โ
Tyler sat in a car that drove him back to the hotel. He didnโt see Rachel when he returned to his room. He removed his jacket and went knocking on her door.
No one answered.

Tyler glanced at his watch and saw that it had been one hour and 40 minutes since Rachel left the bar. She couldnโt have fallen asleep so quickly. He pulled out his phone and gave Rachel a call. No one answered. Tyler texted her: [If you donโt open the door, Iโll have to go to the receptionist to tell them that someone fainted in the room.]
The moment he sent the text, the door was opened from the inside.
Rachel glared at Tyler. โYouโre sick in the head.โ
Tyler was completely unaffected by her jibe and chuckled. โYes, I am sick and youโre the only medicine that can cure me.โ
Rachel retracted her gaze and turned to walk back into her room. She poured herself a cup of water.
โWhat are you here for in the middle of the night, Mr. Hunt?โ
Tyler made one round around the room before approaching the bed, his fingers casually caressing her phone that was on the bedside table.
โDid you head out just now?โ
Rachel was caught off guard by Tylerโs sudden question, not expecting it from him at all. She stood stunned for a moment, then replied as calmly as she could, โNo, I was in my room all this time.โ
โIs that so? Why did I see an increase in the number of steps you took today?โ
