What Rachel didnโt know was that the moment Yvette was arrested, she had already sent a message to Sasha.
Sasha hadnโt expected Yvette to be caught so soon. The truth was, this matter had been hanging over their heads for a long time. Yvette wasnโt completely stupid. She knew Sasha wouldnโt protect her forever. Sooner or later, this would fall back on her. Rather than sitting around and doing nothing, it was better to come up with a plan.
Some time ago, Yvette and Sasha had already agreed that if Rachel really went to the police, she would inevitably be taken in for questioning. When that happened, it would be Sashaโs turn to handle things. Sasha had naturally agreed. The two of them were already in the same boat. Yvette might not have been Sashaโs first choice of ally, but since Jim now wanted to divorce her, she had no better options.
As soon as Yvette sent the message, Sasha immediately brought a doctor with her and went to Jimโs ward.
Jim was lying in bed when the door suddenly opened. He struggled to turn his head, but the moment he saw Sashaโs face, his expression instantly darkened.
โWho let you in here? Get out! Get out right now!โ
Seeing Jim now, Sasha felt none of the affection of their past marriage. Looking at him only made her regret not suffocating him with a pillow back then. Had she done that, none of these problems wouldโve come her way.
Sasha crossed her arms and smiled coldly. Her graceful posture showed none of the embarrassment of a woman facing divorce.
โJim, how can you talk like that? Weโre still husband and wife. Weโre not divorced yet. Even if the divorce petition has been filed, thereโs still a cooling-off period. Itโll be another month before weโre truly divorced. Right now, I am your wife. And as your wife, donโt I have the right to visit my husband?โ
Ever since discovering Sashaโs true nature, Jim had only grown to hate her more. To think that the partner he had lived with for so many years would try to kill him for money. Even his own biological daughter had followed her lead. It had taken him a long time to digest that truth. Now, just seeing Sasha made all those terrible memories come back.
โI donโt want to see you right now. Get out!โ
Jimโs voice was weak and hoarse. Even shouting for a bit seemed to drain all the strength from his frail body. Sasha let out a cold chuckle.
โJim, Iโd advise you not to waste what little energy you have left. Youโre already in this state. Youโd better conserve your strength. Oh, and thereโs something else I need to tell you: Rachel, that precious illegitimate daughter youโre so proud of, has already sent Yvette to the police. In the end, theyโre still sisters. Yet, Rachel is determined to ruin Yvetteโs future over an old misunderstanding. Are you really planning to just stand by and do nothing?โ
But Jim didnโt defend Yvette. Instead, he chose to respect Rachelโs decision.
โI believe Rachel wouldnโt send Yvette in without reason. If she did, it must mean Yvette committed some crime.โ
At that, Jimโs pupils suddenly contracted, as if he had just realized something. He stared at Sasha in disbelief.
โTell me the truth! Five years ago, was it Yvette who plotted Rachelโs harm?โ
Sasha froze for a moment, then quickly explained. โOh, come on! That was just a small misunderstanding. It was only meant to scare her, not to really hurt her. And besides, look at Rachel now. Isnโt she alive and well?โ
