Chapter 634

The managerโ€™s face went pale.

โ€œOf course, of course! Weโ€™d never close down. This was our mistake, and weโ€™ll resolve it right away.โ€ He picked up his walkie-talkie and ordered, โ€œSend a couple of people up to the fifteenth floor. Remove the two intruders.โ€

Yvette couldnโ€™t wait to get out. โ€œNo need to drag me out. Iโ€™ll leave on my own.โ€

By now, Williamโ€™s gaze toward Rachel no longer carried the anger from beforeโ€”only guilt.

โ€œRachel, please, let me explain. About what happened five years ago, I truly didnโ€™t knowโ€”โ€

Rachel didnโ€™t even look at him. โ€œPlease send this man out as well.โ€

โ€œYes, maโ€™am.โ€

The manager noticed Williamโ€™s distinguished clothing. After working in hotels for so many years, if he hadnโ€™t learned anything else, heโ€™d at least learned how to judge a personโ€™s financial status by their appearance.

Compared to his treatment of Yvette, the manager was clearly much more courteous to William.

โ€œSir, if you have something to say to the lady, perhaps itโ€™s better to discuss it privately.โ€

William immediately said, โ€œSheโ€™s my ex-wife.โ€

The manager looked troubled. โ€œEven if she were still your wife, sir, if she refuses to talk, you need to respect her wishes.โ€

William hesitated. He hadnโ€™t expected things to go this far, but he didnโ€™t want to leave. He wanted to explain things properly to Rachel.

Suddenly, the sound of footsteps approached. The security guards the manager had called earlier arrived, lining up at the door.

โ€œSir, your orders?โ€

The manager, mindful of Williamโ€™s status, spoke plainly. โ€œSir, you can either leave on your own, or weโ€™ll escort you out. But I assure you, the latter wonโ€™t look good.โ€

Seeing the row of security guards, William had no choice. He said nothing more and walked toward the elevators.

At last, there was peace once more.

Rachel let out a sigh and shut the door again.

Jerry stepped forward.

โ€œRachel, why didnโ€™t you call the police just now? That wouldโ€™ve been the perfect chance to get rid of Yvette. Now that she knows Iโ€™m still alive, sheโ€™ll definitely try to eliminate meโ€”but it doesnโ€™t really matter to me. My life shouldโ€™ve ended long ago. If it werenโ€™t for you, I wouldnโ€™t even be here now.โ€

Rachel knew Jerry was loyal. โ€œDonโ€™t worry. I wonโ€™t let anything happen to you.โ€

Jerry shook his head. โ€œRachel, you donโ€™t have to comfort me. I already know what kind of consequences to expect.โ€

He had long accepted it. Every day he lived now was borrowed time thanks to Rachel, and he bore no complaints.

Rachel, noticing how he was forcing himself to stay strong, shook his shoulders gently. โ€œWhat are you thinking? When have I ever lied to you? If I say youโ€™ll be fine, then you will be.โ€

Jerry chuckled. โ€œIโ€™ll be alright. Rachel, letโ€™s finish your work first.โ€

Rachel sat down, ready to sort out the remaining issues, when her phone suddenly rang.

โ€œMs. Lloyd, weโ€™ve already taken your sister into custody. When can you come down to give a statement? We also need to verify some details. You know, after all these years, reopening an investigation isnโ€™t easy.โ€

โ€œReview the evidence I submitted first. Iโ€™ll come by tomorrow.โ€

Rachel knew Yvette too well. That woman would deny everything, but if they could get her to confess before eight oโ€™clock tomorrow morning, that would already count as a success.
