Chapter 274: Blame It on the Mouse

โ€œHello?โ€

It was Julia calling. โ€œSummer, why didnโ€™t you come home last night?โ€

Only then did Summer realize sheโ€™d forgotten to tell Julia, with all the chaos at the hospital and being taken home by Fraser. Just then, Fraserโ€™s hot body pressed up against her from behind, his arms wrapping tightly around her waist. He lightly bit the sensitive skin of her neck, punitively.

โ€œAh!โ€ฆโ€

Caught off guard, Summer couldnโ€™t stop herself from making a soft sound. โ€œWhatโ€™s wrong!โ€ Julia immediately sounded worried. โ€œSummer, are you okay?โ€

Why did Summer sound so weird? Summer bit her lip, turned her head, and mouthed silently at Fraser: โ€œGo away!โ€

She took a deep breath and quickly lied, โ€œI had to work late, so I just went back to Brookhaven Estates. I got startledโ€”there seemed to be a mouse.โ€

โ€œA mouโ€ฆโ€

โ€œYour neighborhood has mice? You should just come home tomorrow.โ€

Summer felt Fraserโ€™s wandering hands, her legs almost turning to jelly. โ€œWhat happened now? Did the mouse bite you?โ€ Juliaโ€™s voice rose anxiously.

Without thinking, Summer vaguely mumbled, โ€œMmโ€ฆโ€

โ€œWhat? Seriously, the mouse bit you?โ€ Julia couldnโ€™t believe what she was hearing. Sheโ€™d never heard of mice biting people like this!

Summer gripped her phone tightly, rushing out an excuse. โ€œNo, Mom, itโ€™s fine! I gotta go catch that mouse first.โ€ She quickly ended the call, spun around, and shoved Fraser away.

Summerโ€™s face was flushed with embarrassment and anger.

Fraser looked down lazily, placing his hands casually on either side of her. His voice was playful and teasing. โ€œWhat exactly did I promise?โ€

Summer jabbed her finger at his chest accusingly. โ€œYou said you wouldnโ€™t force me!โ€

Fraser raised his brows innocently. โ€œAnd I havenโ€™t.โ€

Summerโ€™s ears turned red. โ€œBut you were just holding and kissing me!โ€

โ€œYou wanted me too, didnโ€™t you?โ€

โ€œI did not!โ€

Fraser took her hand and placed it over her heart, teasing softly, โ€œSummer, good girls donโ€™t lie.โ€

Flustered, Summer pushed him away and ran toward the door. โ€œIโ€™mโ€ฆ going home.โ€

Fraser sounded deeply displeased. โ€œAfter teasing me, youโ€™re running away? Thatโ€™s cruel.โ€

Summer glanced at his pants and immediately blushed bright red at the exaggerated sight. โ€œI didnโ€™t tease you! Youโ€™re the one teasing me.โ€

Fraser took slow, confident steps toward her, his voice seductive and deep. โ€œBut you enjoyed it too, didnโ€™t you?โ€

Summer backed away rapidly. As Fraser moved closerโ€”she turned suddenly, dashed into the guest room, slammed the door, and locked it in one swift move!

Fraser stared at the locked door helplessly and chuckled softly. Glancing downward, he sighed, โ€œLooks like youโ€™ll have to endure tonight.โ€

Fraser turned around, went into the bathroom, and turned the cold water on full blast.

Stewart Group, next morning. Julia arrived at the office early. โ€œSummer, Iโ€™ve arranged for some professional exterminators to check Brookhaven Estates.โ€

โ€œMom, thatโ€™s really not necessary.โ€

โ€œHow is it not necessary? That mouse mustโ€™ve been huge, judging from how loud you screamed last night!โ€

Summer blushed furiously at the memory. โ€œYouโ€™re pregnant now, so we need to be extra careful about these things,โ€ Julia said firmly.

Julia suddenly paused, eyeing her suspiciously. โ€œWaitโ€ฆ why is your face so red?โ€

Summer inhaled sharply. โ€œYouโ€™re mistaken. The roomโ€™s just too warm.โ€

Warm? Julia didnโ€™t think soโ€”it was autumn, and the temperature was perfect. Julia placed her bag down on the desk. โ€œJust come home tonight. Iโ€™m worried about you staying at Brookhaven Estates.โ€

Just then, Summerโ€™s phone rang on the desk. This was the number Fraser had insisted she unblock last night. Julia approached curiously. โ€œWhoโ€™s calling?โ€

Summer swiftly rejected the call. โ€œJust someone selling insurance.โ€

Julia continued, โ€œIf you wonโ€™t come home, then Iโ€™llโ€ฆโ€ The phone rang again, interrupting Julia mid-sentence.

Under Juliaโ€™s suspicious gaze, Summer reluctantly answered the call. She pressed the phone tightly to her ear. The manโ€™s lazy voice drawled through the receiver, โ€œMiss me yet?โ€

Summer clenched her teeth and replied stiffly, pretending it was work-related, โ€œAlright, we can discuss the project details later.โ€
