Chapter 269: Lucas to the Rescue
Philipโs eyes were bloodshot with excitement! This woman on my bed was Fraserโs ex-girlfriend, and she would soon be mine to take. This feeling is inexplicably exhilarating! He climbed onto the bed and was about to use his belt to bind Summerโs wrists.
Ding dong! His hand froze. Philipโs eyebrows furrowed deeply. โWho the hell dares to disturb me now?โ The hotel doorbell continued to ring incessantly. Ding dong, ding dong, ding dong! Philip glanced at the still unconscious woman, then stood up with a dark expression on his face. After fastening his belt back around his pants, he stormed to the door and yanked it open.
Lucas stood outside, his usually gentle eyes now icy. Philip raised an eyebrow. โMr. Lucas? What brings you here?โ
Lucas, dressed in his gray suit, didnโt mince words. โWhoโs in the room?โ
Philip blocked the doorway with his bulk and sneered. โWhat, I canโt enjoy a woman in peace? Mind your own damn business. The Aldridge familyโs influence doesnโt extend to me.โ
Lucas pushed past him and walked inside. Philip quickly followed, shouting at him. โLucas Aldridge! What the hell are you doing? The Dale Group and the Aldridge Group have never interfered with each other! Youโre crossing the line!โ
As Lucas saw Summer lying unconscious on the bed, anger flashed in his eyes. After making sure her clothes were still intact, he exhaled in relief, then turned around and punched Philip in the face. โYou scum!โ
Caught off guard, Philip staggered back several steps. He wiped the blood from his lip and grinned. โYou think Iโm afraid of you, Lucas?โ
Lucas looked menacing. โYou canโt touch her.โ
Philip scoffed. โOh, so you want her too! I could have just said so. I would have sent her to your room when I was done.โ
Lucas lunged forward, fist raised again. Philipโs eyes gleamed with malice as he taunted, โMr. Lucas, if that fist lands, you can kiss your familyโs precious reputation goodbye.โ
The two men stood in a stalemate by the bed. Philip wasnโt intimidated. Their families were in different industries. Besides, the Aldridges were centuries-old intellectuals who prized their dignity. He knew Lucas wouldnโt risk a scandal.
Just then, Summerโs eyelids fluttered open. Dizzy, she shielded her eyes from the harsh light. Lucas immediately knelt beside her. โSummer, are you okay?โ
Seeing her awake, Philip lost interest. Bang! He kicked a chair violently. โLucas Aldridge, are you ruining my fun? This isnโt over.โ He grabbed his clothes from the floor and dressed, giving Summer a predatory look. โWeโll meet again, honey.โ
Summer met Philipโs vicious gaze, and only then did she realize the danger she was in. Her heart pounded as she frantically checked her clothes. Lucas gently reassured her, โYouโre safe, Summer. Nothing happened.โ
Still shaken, she whispered, โYouโฆ saved me. Thank you, Mr. Lucas.โ
Lucas smiled, lightening the mood. โDoes that thank you get me extra points in your heart?โ
Summer avoided his intense stare, unsure of how to respond. Suddenly, a sharp pain stabbed through her stomach. Remembering the strange scent earlier, Summer paled. Was it poisonous? She stood weakly, urgency in her voice. โPlease take me to the hospital. Now.โ
In the emergency room, Summer clutched the doctorโs sleeve. โIโm pregnant. I inhaled some kind ofโฆ sedative? There have been physical effects as well. My stomach keeps cramping; is my baby okay?โ
The doctor scribbled matter-of-factly on a form. โBlood tests first, then an ultrasound. Anything can happen at three months.โ A pause. โWorst case, induced abortion.โ
The word โabortionโ made Summerโs blood run cold. Her fingers dug into her palms.
