Chapter 118: The Backstabbing Rats
Since that press conference, no one believed Yvette, no matter how much she explained. Society was already harsh on women, and for female celebrities, it was like being measured with a ruler. Yvette reverted to her old ways. As long as there was an event, she showed up, no matter what.
It happened to be Summer's birthday, but Yvette had an event and couldn't make it back in time. She could only celebrate with her the next day.
At the cafe, Yvette was fuming. โThat b*tch Margaret! She actually set you up! I really wanna give her a real shove!โ
โFraser already took care of it for me. This cake is really good, have a piece.โ
Yvette followed Summerโs fork and took a bite. The sweetness melted on her tongue, and most of her anger dissipated.
โWell, having Bossmanโs protection really makes a difference. Look at you, even the way you talk is dripping with honey.โ
Summer blushed.
โSigh, I didnโt even say anything yet, and youโre already blushing. Last night mustโve been intense, right?โ
Summer thought of the two intertwined shadows from the night before. Fraser had been ruthless, only letting her go near dawn. They had tried every position possible. Even Summer felt like her body had become flexible enough to take up ballet.
Yvette tilted her head, as if recalling something. โBut itโs weird. With so many people around last night, and given Havenbrookโs Graham family Bossmanโs popularity, why isnโt there a single trending topic about you two today?โ
Hearing that, Summer finally realized that there really was nothing online about last night, like someone had deliberately suppressed the news. Not that she was afraid of going public with Fraser. After all, her identity was a bit awkward, and she didnโt want unnecessary trouble. But she didnโt overthink it.
Just then, Yvetteโs phone rang.
โHow much? 600 dollars? Are you sure?โ
The person on the other end of the call had no patience for her. โMiss, do you really think youโre still a big star? You should be grateful someone even wants to hire you. If you wait any longer, you might not even get 600 dollars. Are you going or not? If not, Iโll find someone else.โ
Thinking of the endless compensation fees, Yvette swallowed her anger and gritted her teeth. โFine, just let me know the time.โ
After hanging up, she grabbed the coffee on the table and downed it in one go. But the smooth, sweet taste did nothing to ease the bitterness in her chest.
Summer watched from the side, a little worried. โYvette, is there anything I can do to help?โ
Yvette adjusted her emotions and forced a smile. โItโs fine. My mentality is strong. Remember? I started with nothing when I first entered the industry. A little scandal like this wonโt take me down.โ
Summer could tell she was just putting on a brave face. โBut Iโm really worried about you. How about I see if someone can help clear this up?โ
Even as an outsider, Summer knew that Yvette had been trending on entertainment news for days, always in a negative light. Any random post would be something like, โYvette, get the hell out of the entertainment industry!โ
โDonโt,โ Yvette waved her off. โThis is nothing. I can handle it myself. Youโre not even in the industry, what could you do? Are you going to ask Bossman for help?โ
True, if Summer had a solution, she wouldnโt have just sat by while Yvette got dragged through the mud.
Should I ask Fraser? He probably would helpโฆ
Yvette saw her hesitating and raised a perfectly shaped brow. โSummer, I know you mean well. I think you and Shelly were the two people I could trust the most. But that b*tch Shelly ran off to the rivalโs team the moment I fell.โ
She paused for a moment before continuing. โI really treasure our friendship. And I know you donโt like mixing personal matters with interests. You and Bossman just got together, donโt let my mess complicate things.โ
Summer knew how strong-willed Yvette was. โIf it ever gets too much for you, I have some money. Worstโฆ
