Chapter 50

Rosalie paused, letting out a soft chuckle laced with contempt. “Mr. Galloway, what exactly do you think you’re doing?” She felt Julian’s grip around her waist tighten, his fingers pressing into her as if her words had struck a nerve. His frustration was palpable, a storm brewing beneath the surface.

But Rosalie remained unimpressed. The amused curve of her lips deepened. Tilting her chin, she deliberately added fuel to the fire. “You know, Mr. Galloway, there’s a perfect word to describe this behavior of yours—shameless.”

Julian was finally pushed over the edge by Rosalie’s indifference. His gaze darkened, a storm swirling behind his eyes, threatening to crush her. He didn’t want to admit it, but her words had struck a nerve, pinpointing a truth he wasn’t ready to face. Just days ago, Rosalie had signed the divorce papers as he’d wished, yet now he couldn’t let go. He didn’t understand why.

In the past few days, Julian had repeatedly asked himself this question, but the answer remained elusive.

When Isaac had used the Galloway Group’s inheritance to force Julian into marrying Rosalie, Julian had complied. To Julian, Rosalie had been nothing more than the pampered heiress of the Tulley family. Yet, Isaac had been willing to use the entire Galloway Group as a bargaining chip to make him marry her.

Julian had never feared losing the Galloway Group. He could rebuild it from the ground up. But he couldn’t stomach watching everything he’d built be handed over to the traitorous leeches within his family. Those so-called uncles were illegitimate children Isaac had fathered, bastards with no claim to the Galloway name. As far as Julian was concerned, they weren’t worthy of taking anything that belonged to him.

In the end, Julian had given in to Isaac’s wishes and married Rosalie. It made no difference to him whom he married. If marrying the woman his grandfather approved of spared him trouble, so be it.

And for the past year, he had been trouble-free. As for Rosalie’s clinginess, he simply ignored it.
