Chapter 203
“These are our joint property,” Julian said. “Since we’ve divorced, you naturally deserve half. I don’t want the public to think I took advantage of my ex-wife. If you don’t want the money, I won’t accept the divorce.”
While saying this, he stood and prepared to leave, completely missing Kelly’s shocked expression. It was the first time she’d seen a divorced couple handle such an unpleasant matter so decently. The wife wanted no money from the husband, while he insisted on giving her several billion dollars. Considering other couples who fought over every penny of their joint assets, Kelly’s mind went blank.
Kelly, a civil servant earning only several thousand dollars a month, felt deeply affected by their refusal of such a large sum.
“Stop right there!” Rosalie shouted as Julian was about to leave the courthouse. She’d even woken up far earlier than usual to ensure he handled the divorce negotiations in person. If he left now, she’d never have another chance like this.
So, she gritted her teeth and said, “Fine. I’ll take the money.”
Kelly raised an eyebrow and gave Rosalie a sidelong glance. Rosalie’s reluctant acceptance of several billion dollars somehow angered her.
Finally, under Kelly’s envious gaze, they completed the divorce proceedings. Rosalie emerged from the courthouse with a relaxed smile. To strangers, she might have appeared to be registering a marriage; the reluctant-looking man beside her seemed compelled to be her groom.
Compared to Rosalie’s beaming face, Julian was a storm cloud, sullen and silent. Her radiant joy grated on him.
Finally, in dead silence, he slammed the car door open and sped away.
